Responsibilities
Here is a breakdown of the responsibilities of each party involved with providing services for students with disabilities at Central Washington University Center for Disability Services.
- The student must register with Center for Disability Services Office (CDS), per Central Washington University (CWU) campus policy and procedure.
- The student will submit requests for adjustments/accommodations to CDS and CWU faculty in a timely manner.
- The student must deliver the Confirmation of Eligibility form to each instructor and schedule a time to meet with the instructor to discuss needed adjustments.
- The student understands that late notification does not require retroactive academic adjustments.
- The student must meet all academic standards set by program and college.
- The instructor should not provide any adjustments other than those listed on this Confirmation of Eligibility form unless it is an adjustment that the instructor is willing to offer all students in the class.
- Instructors should refer any student requesting additional adjustments to the CDS office.
- The instructor should refer any student from whom the instructor has not received Confirmation of Eligibility form but who is requesting adjustments to the CDS office.
- The instructor may choose to have extended time and or non-distracting environment exams administered by the CDS office. The instructor will provide CDS with date & time, copy of the exam, exam instructions and directions for returning the exam 48 hours prior to the exam time. Instructors can provide a copy of their syllabus at the beginning of each quarter to CDS for easier scheduling.
- Instructors proctoring their own exams must provide all the listed adjustments that relate to the taking of exams.
- Faculty will contact CDS if they have any questions or concerns about academic adjustments requested by students with disabilities enrolled in their classes.
- The CDS staff reviews written documentation of disability and establishes academic adjustments under the rules and regulations of both Federal and State disability law
- The CDS staff is available to help both students and instructors implement the listed instructional adjustments.
- The CDS staff provides adjustments that are not part of the instructional aspect of classes
- The CDS staff will respond to questions, concerns and suggestions of both students and instructors.
