Communication Access Services
The Communication Access Services (CAS) Program in the Center for Disability Services (CDS) works with our students with communications disabilities. CAS supports students who are Deaf and/or Hard of Hearing, have Asperger's Syndrome, Tourette 's syndrome, or any other communication disability. Below are examples of services we are able to provide.
CDS offers our students who are deaf or hard of hearing the following services that they could be eligible to receive:
- American Sign Language Interpreting
- Real-Time Captioning
- Note-takers
- Assistive listening devices
- Early Registration
Pros and Cons of Real Time Services
CDS offers our students with these communication disabilities very individualized services. Because these disabilities are so different for each person who has them, we work with students with the varying services that we can offer. These may include:
- Weekly meetings with the CAS coordinator
- Time-management training
- Be an advocate for the student in initial interactions with faculty, with the goal of having the student learn to self-advocate
