B.A. at Portland State University and M.A. at the the University
of Oregon. During a 12-year hiatus from academics, I ran a

Washington. I have taught at CWU since 1998, specializing in
eighteenth-century and Romantic period British literature, the
novel, poetry, and literary theory. I am currently revising a
book manuscript entitled Historical Space in the 18th-Century
Novel. In it, I look at the way that the lived dimensions of
space, and not just the details of place, are represented in
British literature between 1660 and 1832. In my spare time I
enjoy watching birds, peering through a telescope at faint
nebulae, suffering defeat from my more skilled colleagues at ping
pong, and trying to Books I'm reading or have read recently:The Enchantress of Florence, Salman Rushdie (novel)The Uses of Literature, Rita Felski (Literary Theory) How the Mind Works, Steven Pinker (Cognitive Science) Fictional Worlds, Thomas Pavel (Literary Theory) Department of English
