What is the Summer Institute?

• It is a four-week collaborative community of K-12 teachers designed to share effective teaching strategies in the content areas and across the curriculum.
• It addresses ways to implement the EALRs while keeping students at the center of the curriculum.
• It is a workshop where teachers can explore assessment issues. (Summer Institute leaders have qualified as table leaders and scorers for the fourth-, seventh-, and tenth-grade WASL writing assessment.)

• It is a place where teachers write from their personal experience in a supportive community.
• It is a workshop in which teachers explore the research on teaching writing and using writing-to-learn strategies in the content areas.

• It is a workshop led by classroom teachers who are responding to the WASL and EALRs.
