The Chimpanzee and Human Communication Institute is committed to education. Teaching our fellow humans respect, responsibility and compassion for our fellow apes through education is one of our primary goals.

We hope that all who come into contact with CHCI, especially youth, will come to realize that human exploitation must be replaced with human compassion, that responsible citizenship involves treating our fellow organic beings with humility and respect, and that the essence of a productive life is one that seeks to protect the Earth so that all organic beings can live their lives naturally and free from objectification and exploitation.

The Chimpanzee and Human Communication Institute serves as an educational, scientific resource for Central Washington University, the local community, the region, K-12 students, and the public. (CHCI Mission Statement)

We now have American Sign Language sample sheets of a few of the signs commonly used at CHCI. You may print these pages to help prepare your group for their scheduled Chimposium. We also have chimpanzee facial expressions available for you to print.

The development of the "Next of Kin, A Compassionate, Interdisciplinary Science Curriculum" is part of an ongoing outreach program designed to help K-12 students understand the importance of conservation and compassion toward chimpanzees and all living creatures.

In this section, we provide resources for teachers and students to help them learn more about the curriculum, chimpanzees, and helping our fellow animals.
