The following page is a list of recommended printers for Faculty and Staff at CWU. There are several
different models to choose from, and the intent of this page is to help define what their capabilities
are in layman terms.
Multifunction Printers
Multifunction printers can encompass a broad range of configurations.
For the most part they incorporate the ability to print, scan, and copy in one machine.
The HP J5780 is a multifunction ink jet printer for use on a single computer only. It connects via USB and provides an economical platform for low volume printing, copying, and scanning. It also has a fax feature, however this will require an available analog phone line.
- OfficeJet J5780 (color all in one, ink) ~$131

Production Printers
For very large volume printing, these printers are networked with large paper trays.
They incorporate the ability to have several paper sizes on hand loaded in the printer, with
collating and stapling options.
- LaserJet 9050dn (BW Networked 40ppm) ~$3354

Workgroup Printers
Workgroup printers are by nature available to an entire group of people whether it be an office,
department, building, or even a number of specific individuals who are exclusively given access to
that printer. These are printers that can produce individual jobs, or high volume repetitive print runs.
They can accommodate different sizes of paper via one or more paper tray. They can offer duplex printing,
color printing, envelope printing, and collating.
- LaserJet 3505dn (Color Networked 22ppm) ~$1058

Office printers
Office printers are like workgroup printers in that several people can print
their documents on them. They are smaller and more easily fit into an office or cubicle.
They can accommodate most common paper sizes via one or two print trays. They can provide
duplex printing, and envelope printing.
- LJ2015dn (B&W 27ppm) ~$360

Personal Printers
Personal printers are specifically for one person or desk. They sit in relative
proximity to the computer connected by a single USB cable. These are cost effective,
low volume printers that are intended to be user specific. These are a good solution for
printing documents that need to remain in the users immediate control. They are fairly compact
and take up a minimal amount of desk space.
- LaserJet P1006 (B&W 17ppm) ~$97

- Deskjet D2560 (color 20ppm) ~$48
