Assessing Watershed Impacts UsingN-SPECT
Watershed ModelingWorkshopPlease join the Center for Spatial Information (CSI) on Monday June 25, 2007 at Central Washington University for a free 1/2 day workshop . It will focus on introducing participants to the recently released Nonpoint Source Pollution and Erosion Comparison Tool (N-SPECT) developed by the NOAA Coastal Services Center . The model has been developed to examine the relationships between land cover, soil characteristics, topography, and precipitation in order to assess spatial patterns of surface water runoff, nonpoint source pollution, and erosion. Land cover, topography, soils, and precipitation data sets are used to estimate rainfall runoff volume, suspended sediment loads, and pollutant concentrations and total loads at both the local (pixel) and watershed scales. Participants will receive a combination of theoretical and hands-on training regarding the application of N-SPECT. Furthermore, the workshop will address issues concerning the delineation of hydrologically correct watersheds from digital elevation models (DEMs), which are used to develop assessments within N-SPECT. Please note, participants are assumed to have a working knowledge of ArcGIS and Spatial Analyst. The event will be held at the GIS Lab in Lind Hall on Central Washington University campus from 8 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Please RSVP Chris McColl if you are planning on attending so that we can plan accordingly.
