Analytical Equipment and Computer Facilities

CSI Computers

The Center for Spatial Information has excellent research and application computer facilities for Geocomputation and image analysis. We currently support numerous Pentium III, Dell Precision 530 (Xeon processor), and Sun workstations. Geospatial software includes ERDAS Imagine 8.5 (including OthoBase Pro), PCRaster, and ArcGIS 8.1.2. We use Trimble Pathfinder as GPS data reduction software for numerous survey grade GPS. Leica Survey Office and LISCAD Plus are used for total station data integration. Terrasolid (under MicroStation-J) is used for LiDAR data processing and analysis. This software includes Terrascan, TerraModeler, and TerraPhoto. CSI shares access to the Geology PANGA lab, GIS lab, and other computer labs on campus. CWU has a site-wide license for ArcGIS.

Geodesy Laboratory, Department of Geological Sciences

The Geodesy Laboratory and the PANGA Data Processing Facility maintains a mixed network of Unix and NT workstations, including a Sun Microsystems Enterprise Ultra 3500 Server and numerous Sun Ultra workstations, and NT servers. In addition, the laboratory uses a Sun Enterprise Ultra 450 Server for additional processing. The Sun workstations are equipped with the GIPSY/OASIS II software (release version 4 of GIPSY-II) for high precision GPS data analysis, provided by the Jet Propulsion Lab. The workstations also run GAMIT - GLOBK software, a suite of programs developed at MIT for the analysis of GPS data.

Detailed terrain modeling of river systems requires serious computing power...

Computer visualization of complex terrain
