Science Honors Junior Seminar

In the spring of their junior year, the science honors research students will enroll in a Science Honors Junior Seminar. This seminar will be developed and taught by two science faculty from separate disciplines who will design the course to meet the cohort's needs. Thematic concerns common to all sciences will be covered. Topics to be included in the course are the development of scientific thought and reasoning, the basis of inquiry-driven scientific discovery, statistics and uncertainty in experimental design, and interpretation of scientific data.

Students will learn to think independently and critically about science by designing the details of their own research projects and experiments. Group work and exercises will be assigned and open discussions of topics will be facilitated to promote a sense of community among the honors students. The overarching goal of the junior Science Seminar will be to create an atmosphere in which the summer research experience will be intellectually stimulating and scientifically productive.
