Eastside Commencement Ceremony is split into two (2) ceremonies. The two Commencement Ceremonies will be split by colleges and held on the same day, Saturday, June 7, 2008.
Eastside Commencement Ceremony 1 will be for all graduates (undergraduates and master candidates) in the College of Education & Professional Studies and the College of Business Graduation will be held on June 7, 9:30a.m. - 11:00a.m. at Tomlinson Stadium.
Eastside Commencement Ceremony 2 will be for all graduates (undergraduates and master candidates) in the College of Arts & Humanities, College of the Sciences, Interdisciplinary Study and Individual Study majors. Graduation will be held on June 7, 1:30p.m. - 3:00p.m. at Tomlinson Stadium.
Each faculty member who has submitted his or her commencement participation form to the registrar will be sent a commencement Information Packet approximately 2 weeks prior to the ceremonies.
Eastside Commencement Ceremony 1 is Saturday, June 7, 2008 from 9:30a.m. - 11:00a.m.. A parking pass will be sent to you in your information packet. You may park in the reserved section of the Nicholson Pavilion lot. Please arrive by 8:45 a.m. - remember traffic is heavy. We begin moving the line around 9:20. Faculty will be meeting in the PE Building Foyer to begin the lineup. At 9:00 you need to move to the walkway outside, between the PE Building and the pavilion in two parallel lines. In keeping with the traditions of this ceremony, we request all participants dress in commencement regalia.
The processional route for faculty will be to follow the track around to the west side of the field and down the center aisle toward the front row of seats. Faculty will occupy the front two rows on each side. Faculty who are hooding will be placed in the front row. There will be extra space between the rows, so faculty can easily get in and out to congratulate their students. A seating arrangement is attached but it is subject to change. The members of the Silver Cortege will have your exact seating location when you arrive.
The deans from each college will ask the faculty in their college to stand along with the students in their college during their brief presentation.
Those faculty with "hooding." beside their name on the faculty marching order list in your commencement Information Packet should refer to the master's student marching order list for the names of the students you will be hooding. We attempted to combine committee members with the students; however, it was not always possible. If you do not wish to participate in hooding master's candidates, please ask another member of your department to take your place.
- Keep track of where the students you are hooding are in line.
- Proceed the students halfway up the ramp.
- Turn and hood the candidates (the faculty member on the high end of the ramp will place the hood over student's head from the front, the other person straightens the back of the hood behind the candidate).
- When your student(s) are hooded, proceed down the center ramp back to your seats.
- If you are joining another faculty member already in the hooding process, please wait until he or she has completed prior to moving up the ramp.
The recessional is in reverse order. The last faculty members to enter are the first to exit following the platform party. Wait for a Silver Cortege member to guide you.
If you cannot attend, please notify the registrar at extension 3012. If you know of someone who plans to attend and is not on this list, please ask him or her to contact us. Seats are pre-assigned.
Registrar Services will be sending each member of the Presidential Party a commencement Information Packet two weeks prior to commencement. Eastside Graduation Ceremony 1 is scheduled for the 7th of June. The Presidential Party members are asked to assemble for robing at 8:45 a.m. in the P.E. Building, Room 114. At 9:25 please form two lines and proceed to the east hallway of the PE building. The ASCWU president will assist in the lineup.
Carrying the University Mace, the 2008 Faculty Marshal begins the commencement procession at 9:30 a.m. sharp. Upon arriving on the platform, the Faculty Marshal will face the audience (West), holding the mace until all are seated. The Faculty Marshal will then place the mace in its stand and move to his assigned seat on the platform.
A slight change has been made to the script during the Master student's hooding. The Vice President will be reading names, so the Dean can participate in the hooding portion of the ceremony. Prior to the Master students receiving their degrees, two faculty members will be hooding the students 3/4 up the ramps, so you will notice other faculty members escorting the graduate students. Some faculty members will have only one student while others may have several.
The closing recessional will commence when the Alma Mater has ended and the Faculty Marshall picks up the mace and walks down the center aisle towards the west side of the field. The recessional is in reverse order of entry. As you proceed down the center aisle, the Silver Cortege will lead you down to the track toward the south entrance of the field to exit. The graduates will exit behind the faculty.
A parking pass has been included for your use. The pass will enable you to park in the front section of the Nicholson Pavilion lot. Please show the ticket to the parking attendant. If you have additional questions, please feel free to telephone Tracy Terrell at (509) 963-3076.

Participants should arrive at Benaroya Hall, S. Mark Taper Foundation Auditorium, no later than 5:30 p.m. You will be robing in the Musicians' Lounge. The ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. sharp. If you are traveling from Ellensburg to Benaroya, please allow an extra half hour to accommodate for traffic.
Since we will be utilizing Benaroya Hall in the S. Mark Taper Foundation Auditorium, the entire Presidential Party will be able to sit on the stage. Those that are part of the Presidential Platform will receive a seating chart in your commencement participation packet. The remaining faculty, administrators and staff will sit with other dignitaries in the third row. A member of the staff will assist you with your lineup.
Faculty assisting with the hooding of masters candidates should proceed up the right side stairs on to the stage, turn and hood the candidates (one faculty member will place the hood over the student's head from the front; the other faculty member straightens the back of the hood behind the candidate). Once you have completed the hooding of your student(s), exit stage right (the opposite side you came up). If you are joining another faculty member already in the hooding process, please wait until they have completed prior to going up the stairs. You will be notified in your packet if you are participating in the hooding ceremony along with your candidate name(s).
In keeping with the traditions of this ceremony, we request all participants dress in commencement regalia.
If you will have a guest joining you at the Westside Commencement Ceremony, you will need to notify Tracy Terrell at terrell@cwu.edu to notify her of your guest's name, so we can add them to the guest and security list. This is a ticketed event, and seating is limited, so we need to have as much notification as possible to make the proper arrangements. Guests may enter through the Artists Entrance with the faculty, but will not be able to enter through the main auditorium since they will not have a ticket. If you have questions, please ask.
If you cannot attend, please notify the registrar at x3012. If you know of someone who plans to attend, but has not contacted the Registrar, please ask him or her to contact us. Seating is pre-assigned, so it is important to have an accurate count.
If you have questions regarding the Westside ceremony, please contact Tracy Terrell at (509) 963-3076 or e-mail, terrell@cwu.edu.
