CWU hires new faculty

Faculty join department in public relations, film and convergence.

Three new tenure-track faculty have joined the Communication Department this fall: Xiaodong Kuang will teach public relations and advertising, Maria Sanders will teach film and scriptwriting, and Steve Jackson will teach convergence media.

Xiaodong Kuang, just received his PhD in communication. His dissertation examined the ways advertising might be used to discourage smoking among Chinese youth. He will be teaching courses in media and society, public relations and advertising.

Maria Sanders, is no stranger to the department, she has been teaching here for two years. But last spring, she was selected from a highly qualified, national pool to fill the tenure-track position. Professor Sanders has an MA from the American Film Institute and has worked in the film industry before coming to Central to teach.

Steve Jackson, who most recently taught at Hilbert College, has been hired to help expand the department's offerings in convergent media. He will be teaching online media, corporate video, as well as mass media and society courses. His research interest is in digital humanities, using media to explore society and societal issues.
