During the past year and a half, corporate headlines have repeatedly surprised, frightened, and disturbed the American public. The continuum of news stories about Enron, WorldCom, Tyco and many others has focused attention on corruption, greed, and malfeasance. People have been left wondering where these corporate misdeeds and scandals began and whether there is an end in sight.

What are the lessons learned from these headlines and, more importantly, how instructive are these stories for understanding corporate responsibility and business ethics?

John Dienhart, Ph.D., Seattle University, is coming to Central Washington University to present the College of Business Lecture titled, "From Enron to Ethics: Corporate Ethics Programs - Trends and Opportunities." The lecture is Thursday, May 8 at 1:00pm in Shaw-Smyser 115. The lecture will be transmitted via Distance Education to all CWU DE sites.

The lecture is sponsored through funds provided by Fritz and Joan Glover who share a commitment to education and an interest in advancing the discussion on campus about business ethics and corporate responsibility.

Franc Javier Camara, Director of the Corporate Standards Strategies Group at the Microsoft Corporation, has an interesting perspective on culture, education and the evolution of technology. He will share his perspective and experiences with the campus community in a public lecture: "From the Mayans to E-Commerce."

The lecture is Monday, May 12 at 11:00am in Shaw-Smyser 115. The lecture will be transmitted via Distance Education to all CWU DE sites.

The lecture is sponsored by two student clubs in the College of Business: ECO (Exito. Conocimiento. Oportunidad.) and the Association of Management Information Systems. The lecture is also sponsored by the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) - a special program offered at CWU that provides Financial and Academic Support Services to freshman students from migrant and seasonal farm-working backgrounds. CAMP is designed to help students succeed as they begin their college careers.
