C. McGehee, Instructor

                             STUDY GUIDE WEEK 4

What is inequality? What are the problems of defining inequality? Should people be
equal? Why or why not? How is inequality noticed? How is it measured?

Discuss the issues of inequality relative to the transition from cottage industry to the
factory system as described in class.

What was the definition of "free market" given in class? What did the instructor mean
by this definition?

What social factors cause imbalance in the labor market in a free market economy?

Who are the "throwaway people" discussed in the film by the same name? Where did
they come from? How did they get to be the way they are? What, if anything, can or
should be done about them, to them, or for them?

What five problems must be avoided when trying to distribute resources equitably?
