Mine is the good fortune of working in the David Wain Coon Center for Excellence in Leadership full-time. I was raised in Vancouver, WA, but my family and I recently spent six years as Hoosiers in the great state of Indiana. I completed a Ph.D. in Education Policy Studies at Indiana University and worked at I.U.P.U.I. in the Center for Teaching and Learning for three years.

In the summer of 2007 we moved back west to Ellensburg. We love it here! I am married to a wonderful and talented woman, Kristie and we have two active and engaging boys: Nathan (7) and Hunter (3). As a family we enjoy camping, baseball, baking cookies, and reading great stories.

The Center for Excellence in Leadership is truly for all students at Central. We invite you to visit our office in the SURC and join us as we work together to make the world a better place!

In my mind, the fundamental purpose of leadership is poetically summed up in Bolman and Deal's "Leading with Soul." They say, "The essence of leadership is not giving things or even providing visions. It is offering one's self and one's spirit."

Hafa Adai! I am the Fiscal Specialist for the Center for Excellence in Leadership. This is my fifth year on the job and I'm pleased to be a part of this office. Please stop in and let me know how things are going with you, or if I can be of any assistance. I'm here to help you! You'll find my office within the David Wain Coon Center for Excellence and Leadership.

I am married to my wonderful husband, Mark, who is an instructor in the HHPR Department. We are from the small island of Guam in the huge Pacific Ocean, and we have 3 children - Miah, 10, Taylor, 4, and Chase, 2.

Pamela Alvarado

Hello my name is Pamela but everyone calls me Pam. I'm a Junior at Central Washington University and I would not change it for anything. I am a Communication Studies Major, and pursing a Spanish and Latino/Latin American Studies Minor. I'm also involved with an organization on campus MEChA that stands for Movimiento Estudiantil Chicana/o de Aztlan.

I was raised in East Wenatchee but I was born in Southern California. My uncle and aunt raised me after my parents passed away. I graduated from Eastmont High school in 2005. During my high school career I had the opportunity to be involved. I held leadership positions and participated in a leadership class where I learned to have a greater appreciation for leadership and helping people. I also had the opportunity to represent my community and the Latino population in 2005 as a Washington State Apple Blossom Princess.

I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. Especially when my grandparents share their stories with me. I enjoy reading books from Sandra Cisneros. I love to talk and eat Mexican food.

My favorite quotes are: "Si Se Puede," by Cesar E. Chavez; and, "Every action you take has a consequence whether it's a good one or a bad one," by Enrique Sanchez.

Julia Cain

I am a junior at Central Washington University majoring in Recreation Management and minoring in Business Administration.

I was born in Santa Barbara, California, but moved to Washington State when I was 6 months old. I grew up in Kirkland and graduated from Inglemoor High School in Kenmore in 2005. I chose Central because the first time I stepped foot on Central's campus, I felt like I was at home.

I love to watch and play sports, especially soccer, football, golf, and rugby. I enjoy spending time with my close friends from home and school, and my family. I love Family Reunions because I come from a big extended family and reunions are always full of amazingly fun times. I also love watching movies, going to concerts and playing with my dogs.

My years of being a YMCA staff and volunteer have taught me that leadership comes in all shapes and sizes. Leadership is more than just a person; it is the ability to truly help others. I believe that a real leader is someone who sees others in need and supports them without any reservations or judgments. I see leaders in everyone I know, because I don't believe that you need any specific title to be a leader, you just have to have the ability to care about others.

Quotation: "Life's most urgent and persistent question is...what are you doing for others?" - Martin Luther King Jr.

Danielle Howard

Hey Central Students! My name is Danielle Howard and I am a senior here at CWU. I am an Interdisciplinary Studies in Social Science major with a Business Administration minor.

As well as being a Program Leader for the David Wain Coon Center for Excellence in Leadership, I serve as your ASCWU-BOD Vice President for Academic Affairs and sit on seven different university committees. Other organizations that I am affiliated with are the Washington Student Lobby and Rotaract.

When I’m not in my office, class, at a conference, or in a meeting, I am working races. I love racing and I work registration and trophies through the Cycle Barn of Lynnwood. We put on Go-Karting races across the Pacific Northwest. After graduation, I plan on moving to Lynnwood to work full-time at Cycle Barn doing their marketing and promotions, while I attend graduate school part-time to get my Masters in Higher Education Administration. My ultimate career goal is to work at a university within student affairs.

I love the color pink, am overly obsessed with giraffes, and have an addiction to shopping. Other interests of mine include rock climbing, playing tennis, watching F1 racing, Nip/Tuck, and traveling. My family and friends are everything to me and I have some of the best in the world.

I live a busy life but wouldn't want to live it any other way. I strongly believe that one person can make a difference in anything and I hope to make my difference during my lifetime. One of my favorite quotes that I live by today is:

"Don't worry about the destination, or you'll never enjoy the ride..." - unknown

Chris Lake

I am a senior studying Psychology and Business. My career goal is to serve as a leadership and organizational development consultant. Quality, authentic leadership helps to create a work environment that people are proud to be part of.

I am involved with several on-campus clubs, honor societies, and committees. At the Center for Excellence in Leadership, I represent Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK), the national honor society in leadership. Typically I work on joint ODK-CEL projects such as development workshops, guest speakers, and networking events. I am also certified to administer the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator assessment, a great tool to understanding how we communicate.

I like to stay very busy. When I do have free time, though, I like to play tennis, run, snowboard, and play pool. I love to travel and want to see Europe! Many of my happiest moments are spent with friends and family just hanging out.

Allen Lehnhoff

Hi! My name is Allen. I'm a senior at Central Washington University and majoring in Business with a minor in Communications.

I was born in Jacksonville, Florida, but have no recollection of it since I moved to South King County when I was still a wee little baby. I grew up in Kent and graduated from Kentridge High school. I finished my AA degree at Bellevue Community College and registered at Central in the fall of 2006. I enrolled at Central because I like the small town feel and the small class sizes.

Leadership is about motivating and facilitating a group of people toward a common goal. I don't think that leadership is a born and innate characteristic, but a skill that can be honed and cultivated. In order to be a good leader you must have the will, the want, and the drive to be a good leader. Leaders must also have the passion to inspire others.

I enjoy traveling, golf, and snowboarding and I've recently taken up wakeboarding. I think vacations are the best. You can learn a lot about yourself when you're taken out of your element and placed in a different environment. There are all types of different people and places and being out of your normal domain is not only a huge eye opener, but gives you a wider perspective of what is out there in our huge world.

Brenna Partridge

I am currently a senior pursuing a degree in Recreation and Tourism.

I was born in Kirkland, WA but lived in Olympia, WA most of my life. Before my decision to transfer to Central Washington University in the fall of 2006, I studied at a few schools. I attended Western Washington University my freshmen year, studied in Australia and New Zealand, and then returned to Olympia to complete my Associates Degree at South Puget Sound Community College.

I love being involved, whether it is in my school, community or church. Being outdoors is probably my favorite place to be! Some of my hobbies include; hiking, camping, swimming, soccer, working out, SALT, spending time with friends, and being creative or crafty.

I do not see a leader as someone who holds a prestigious position or with a high status. I see leadership as an opportunity to serve others and build positive relationships. A leader should not only give advice, but seek it. A leader should have the ability to listen and share. A leader is someone who reaches from their hearts and makes a difference whether large or small.
