TARGET POPULATION: Residents of the City of Ellensburg, visitors, and guests

MISSION STATEMENT: The mission of Ellensburg Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in our community by providing the safest environment possible in unity with our community members regardless of race, gender, or social standing.

DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES/PROGRAM OBJECTIVE: Collaborating with high schools and the health department, the police department brings awareness regarding drug and alcohol issues via public speaking events. This includes the "Every 15 Minutes" programs that happen every year in high school that deal with drinking and driving.

EPD officers also present freshman orientation courses at CWU called "Awareness - look at me, no MIP," in which they address issues of minor in possession and other alcohol violations. In addition to public awareness activities, the Ellensburg Police Department works with traffic safety in having "enforcement nights," where they make minor in possession traffic stops, check on parks, and check out parties.

FUNDING SOURCE: The City of Ellensburg and extra grants for special events

EVALUATION: Outside audits are performed. The City of Ellensburg Police is accredited through Washington State in which four hundred eighty standards are applied. In addition, community forums and feed back from the university and high school aid in evaluations.
