How to Choose a Major
If you've come to Central and you already know what you want to major in, that's great. If you haven't selected a major yet, you're not alone. Up to 80% of freshmen entering college across the US indicate that they are not certain of their choice of major, even if they have declared one. Research shows that most college students change their majors two or three times before they graduate. Don't worry. Start now. Treat the process like one of your jobs or one of your classes (i.e., "This quarter I'm taking Geology of National Parks, Math, Drawing I, and Choosing a Major.")
Here's a list of steps you can take to explore possible majors. Some are easier than others. Some may take an hour while others take a quarter. You may want to do all the suggested steps or just a few. Career counselors can help you with the steps, no matter where you choose to begin. |
