Welcome from the Dean

Welcome to the College of Arts and Humanities, which is academic home for approximately 1,200 undergraduate and 80 graduate students, 150 faculty, and 20 staff members. Although we are a diverse community, we share a passion for the arts and humanities and for teaching and learning. Our disciplines of art, communication, English, foreign languages, history, music, philosophy, and theatre arts are central not only to the education of all students at Central, but also to living and working in the 21st century. We invite you to share in our passion by exploring this website, taking our classes, reading our publications, and attending our numerous extracurricular activities, including concerts, plays, exhibits, lectures, workshops, and many more.

The 21st century has been called the "communication and information age," and it demands global awareness and local engagement from each and every one of us. Working with other academic units on campus, our faculty offer a diverse and global curriculum and seek to involve students in discovering new knowledge and in applying what they learn to society at large. We strive to graduate students who are "scholar/artist citizens" whose learning involves real world problem solving and civic engagement. Most importantly, we work to cultivate in our students certain qualities of mind - curiosity, imagination, tolerance - that will make them lifelong learners, successful workers, and engaged citizens. The College of Arts and Humanities is a vibrant and friendly community, and I strongly encourage you to visit or to make it your academic home.

On this website you will find information about our educational programs, extracurricular offerings, and community projects, as well as contact information for faculty and staff. We are here to serve you! Please contact us if we can be of assistance.

Yours sincerely,
Marji Morgan
