Subject - Thank you
My comment goes out to Jesse Days, I was searching and searching frantically for an academic calendar that could show me when scheduled breaks were but couldn't seem to find one quickly. Instead I found all sorts of outdated calendars and calendars that informed me of every random thing in the book (who has scheduled a table in the SURC, who will be speaking at such and such club mtg, where the CWU softball team played last spring...). Anyway I submitted my comment to the suggestion box and then received a satisfactory answer quite rapidly. I just wanted to say thanks. I am sure you get more complaints than thanks. Thanks for doing your job and assisting in students being able to successfully navigate through the web page.

Response - Thank you for the complement. We strive to provide the best customer service and browsing experience possible. Knowing that our site is very large and documents can sometimes be hard to find, we are preparing to launch a new home page with ADA compliant fly-out menus. The various campus calendars, including the Academic Calendar, will be very easy to find.

Subject - Bicycle Citations
If it wouldn't be too terribly uncomfortable to get out of their nice warm cars, would it be at all possible for the campus cops to hand out some citations to all the jackasses who ride their bikes through dense foot traffic at 20 miles an hour?
Forwarded to - Kevin Higgins, Captain, Operations Commander, Public Safety and Police Services
Response - The use of bicycles, electric bicycles, skateboards, nonmotorized scooters, electric scooters and in-line skates shall be allowed only as a means of transportation on pedestrian malls, sidewalks, walkways and vehicular traffic ways of CWU. Anyone using a bicycle, electric bicycle, skateboard, nonmotorized scooter, electric scooter or in-line skates on CWU property shall give right of way to any pedestrian and shall travel at a reasonable, safe and prudent speed. Under no circumstance will bicycling, skateboarding or in-line skating be allowed on ramps, curbs, benches, steps or stairs or other such structures. The use of bicycles, electric bicycles, skateboards, nonmotorized scooters, electric scooters or in-line skates shall not be permitted inside any building or within twenty feet of a building entrance or exit. While in use, bicycles, skateboards, scooters and in-line skates shall be operated in a safe, reasonable and prudent manner such as all wheels shall remain on the ground.
If a person observes a bicyclist violating the rules, they should immediately call the University Police at 925-8534. The person reporting the violation should get as much information about the bicyclist such as a physical description, clothing, and direction of travel, and provide that to police. Also, when time permits we do spot enforcement of bicycle infractions.

Subject - Sidewalk Driving
How about if all motorized vehicles (cwu vehicles included) were prohibited from driving on the sidewalks during the ten minutes between classes?
Forwarded to - Bob Tosch, Director, Facilities Management
Response - The university is currently pursuing various methods to decrease the number of vehicles on campus. The staff from the Facilities Department have been and will continue to be strongly encouraged to avoid driving on the malls during the top of the hour class change.

Subject - Calendar
I have been searching on your webpage for quite some time and still have not been able to locate a basic campus calendar that informs me of when academic breaks are scheduled. Why is this so difficult? All I can find is calendars that are outdated (2006) or else they are filled details regarding who has scheduled a table or booth in your surc....who cares?

Response - The information you're seeking is at: http://www.cwu.edu/~regi/course_information.html . It appears to have been recently updated.

Subject - Academic Year Calendar
I was just trying to find a calender schedule for the school year that is broken down by month to month and lists the typical schedule and with observed holidays etc. Is there a way to make this more easily available to us students.
I have gone here for the past four years and I know I have seen them in the past but I never know where it is at within the CWU portal.
My suggestion is to possible make it a link on the schools intranet home page just like e-mail, blackboard and the link for weather and traffic.

Response - Thanks so much for the great suggestion. I will try and get this implemented.

Subject -Housing Deposits
I recently moved out of Brooklane. (I am renting a house, no problems with Brooklane.) I was surprised, however, with the policy that covers payement of damages and return of deposit. I moved out on Sept 1. I paid for damages out of my financial aid refund on Sept 23. (I think that was the date.) But I didn't get my $200 deposit back until Oct 12. I had to pay all the deposits on my new place and the damages to Brooklane and then still had to wait a full 6 weeks for my deposit to be returned to me.
My suggestion: coordinate your system a bit better. The damages and cleaning fees should not be paid until the deposit is ready to be returned. Both the fees and the deposit should post to the student's account on the same day. The deposit, not my financial aid, is supposed to pay for cleaning and damages.
Forwarded to -Elaine Ames, University Housing and New Student Programs, Operations and Marketing Manager
Response -Thank you for the feedback of your experience of living on campus, or in your case, of moving off campus. Ideally, the system is designed so that any charges and deposit are placed on the student's account within one week of vacating your accommodations. Unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect world and any number of things may have occurred within a number of different departments on campus. In the scenario described below, 6 weeks does seem excessive to wait for the deposit refund. Without knowing your name, we are unable to research your particular situation. We would be happy to do that for you as every time we research a particular situation, we are able to evaluate and improve our process. If you would like us to do that, please contact University Housing at 509-963-1831 or send an email to housing@cwu.edu. Best wishes to you for a successful academic year.

Subject - Customer Service in Cashier and Registrar's Office
Faculty in the cashiers office and the registrar need to be more friendly and willing to help with students. I understand they have to help students with problems all day, but that is their job and it is pretty disturbing to have to try to deal with problems of your own when the person who is supposed to be helping you is rude and unhelpful.
Forwarded to -Tracy Terrell, Registrar and Kevin Kimball, Assistant V.P., Business and Financial Affairs
Response - I am sorry to hear about the experience you had in the Registrar's office. Our number one goal is to provide quality customer services. We are having a customer training session in December to renew our commitment to service, plus we talk about our service in our weekly staff meetings, so I discuss the situation with our team at the upcoming meetings.
It would be really helpful if you can provide me with the name of the person that you spoke to, so I can address the situation with them directly. You are welcome to email me directly at terrell@cwu.edu with that information or contact me at (509) 963-3076.
If you have further questions or problems, please let me know.
Tracy Terrell
I am sorry to hear that your experience with a university staff member in the cashiers office was unhelpful and unfriendly. We strive to provide quality customer services which includes helpful and friendly staff. I will share your message with the Cashier's Office and remind them of our commitment to provide friendly and helpful service to all students.
In an effort to help us understand your needs and provide better service, the Cashier's Office and other Financial Affairs' Offices will be conducting a customer service survey during the months of November and December. I encourage you to complete a survey when it comes available in November.

Subject - Grounds Maintenance
Can we please NOT have a leaf blower and street cleaner going at 6:30 in the morning outside Kamoloa. 7 to 7:30 is even pushing it. You don't even understand, it sounds like an airplane hitting pavement. Can we please try to not have this going so early? Thank you.
Forwarded to - Calvin Lang, Head Grounds Keeper
Response - I fully understand the inconvenience and interruption that is caused by machinery such as the ones described. The decision to operate the blower and street sweeper at that time of day was not an easy one nor one with out concern. The Chestnut trees along the area drop their chestnuts (which are NOT edible) this time of year and need to be cleaned up as soon as possible to avoid walking hazards. Due to the high volume of students and staff that travel the area during the time from 7:30 AM through later evening, safety for those individuals concerning close proximity to the operation of equipment, has to take precedence over inconvenience. We do however, recognize this inconvenience for those living in the area and will revisit our options in the chance something was overlooked.

Subject - Campus Police
Do the campus police officers always have to zip through parking lots like maniacs? They seem like part of the problem when it comes to traffic safety, not the solution.
Forwarded to - Kevin Higgins, Captain CWU Police Services
Response - Thank you for your submission. The CWU Police Department strives to provide a safe environment for all at the University. CWU Police Officers are trained on a yearly basis on safe vehicle handling and response to calls. The CWU Police Department has departmental policies that require the officers to follow State laws and operate the vehicle in a safe and prudent manner. There are times that Officers respond to calls with their lights off as a way to protect the officer and citizens as they approach a potentially hazardous situation. If you witness a driving complaint on anybody please report it to 509-925-8534.

Subject - Undergraduate Student Count
I have been all over your web site trying to find out the number of undergraduate students you have and can't find it anywhere. It is usually very easy to find on university web sites.
Forwarded to -Jesse B. Days, CWU Web Developer
Response - Thank you for your inquiry. The information you're seeking is located at the Institutional Research Web site, located at: http://www.cwu.edu/~ir/index.php This site is most easily accessed from our A-Z site index. That link is located on the CWU home page.
