Subject - Missing Mail
My mother sent me two pieces of mail at the same time. Both letters were correctly addressed. On one of them, someone crossed out my address and put a different Amanda Miller's CWU address. Luckily that Amanda Miller realized this wasn't hers and looked the address up online and called my mom who got ahold of me and I eventually got my mail...already opened. The second letter has not been found yet. It was mailed out 2 1/2 to 3 weeks ago. It's a check from my insurance company for several thousand dollars that I don't want floating around. I have called mail service, university housing and I've talked to the Barto RA's. No one takes responsibility for it and sends me on my way to one of the other groups of people listed above. All insist "it's not our fault" "we're not in charge of that". I'm furious and am now going to have to call my insurance company, have them cancel the check and write me a new one and hope that this time it will get to me. This is a problem because that will take time I don't have.
Thank you for your time.
Forwarded to - Richard DeShields, Interim Director University Housing and New Student Programs
Response -Mail is sorted by the United States Postal Service into bags that are then delivered to the University. Often times, mail is not placed in correct bags. For example, a piece of mail for one student (who has the same name as someone else on campus) is placed in the bag for a different hall than the intended recipient. Our hall staff will then note that the student doesn't live in that hall and forward it either to the hall that is labeled on the envelope/mail or sent to mail services to determine where to forward the mail. At this time, mail services goes off of the forwarding address that students have listed as their forwarding address through Safari. Students should continue updating mail addresses through the Safari system.
All certified mail is delivered and logged so that students know exactly when the mail arrives.
The RAs are not to write on any mail, but if a piece is not delivered to the correct hall it is sent via the Barto office and mail services works on rerouting or forwarding the mail.
Forwarded to - Mickey Parker, Administrative Services Manager, Facilities Services
Response - We have been updating and revising our mail forwarding procedures. The students will now receive correspondence form Mail Services if their local address cannot be found. The memo further refers the students to come to Mail Services to pick up their mail, which will be held for one week, prior to forwarding the mail to the permanent address. All of the procedures are under review so as to better serve the students. The US Post Office used to handle all student mail. As of this fiscal year, the US Post Office could no longer handle the student mail. Thus, CWU is in a learning phase as to how best to process student mail and provide excellent customer service.

Subject - Email access after Graduation
I am graduating this quarter and I was wondering how long until my groupwise account will be closed. I was also wondering if my groupwise is closed down will i still be able to access safari? i am worried about accessing safari to receive updates and informaiton pertaining to graduation. please let me know
Forwarded to - Carmen Rahm, Assistant VP for Information Technology
Response - Student email accounts are deleted approximately 3 weeks after the beginning of the next academic quarter (this does not include summer). Students who graduate this quarter (Winter) will have their email accounts deleted approximately 3 weeks into the Spring Quarter and students who graduate after Spring Quarter will have their email accounts deleted 3 weeks into Fall Quarter. Safari access does not go away. Students are able to access Safari indefinitely as long as they have their User ID, PIN, etc.

Subject - Food Substitutions in Dining
Most every Friday, North Campus Dinning has a captain's platter, consisting of shrimp and fish. Unfortunately, some of us have allergies (to shellfish in this case). I asked if I could substitute another piece of fish instead of the shrimp. The staff member proceeded to tell me no, I could not do that. I asked why. The staff member replied, she did not know.
Why are substitutions not allowed in any dinning facility, for that matter?
Forwarded to - Daniel Layman, Interim Director Dining Services
Response - Thank you for the note, I will talk to the staff regarding the substitution. Letting guest make substitutions changes our whole costing of an entre. Your request for no shell fish might work ,but then we have another student who wants shell fish and no fish and then another student who wants extra fish and another student who does not want the salad that might come with the entre and each person then wants a price adjustment. This then creates a problem for the cashier on what to charge.

Subject - CWU Website
In the past several months I have seen various comments about the poor overall look and lack of "user friendly" access on the web site. I concur with these comments. One response talked about compliance with ADA requirements and pointed to the note about optimization for newer browsers. I don't think the site meets either of those explanations. Print is very small and hard to see on the gray background; home page shows A-Z Index whereas following pages show this link as Site Map; directory is under Advanced Searches then you have to select from four options. All very confusing. Parent page is just a recap of everything on the web. It is amazing to me that a university of your caliber would have such a web site. Please help a frustrated parent.
Forwarded to - Becky Watson, Director Public Relations and Marketing
Response - Thank you for your email. The CWU Web site is a major aspect to the
university message, and information source. The university,
continually monitors, edits and upgrades the university site. The
site is currently under review by a committee headed by Information
Technology Services, and is partnered with a committee headed by
Public Relations and Marketing to evaluate the site for potential
upgrades and updates. One aspect to the CWU site is that the
university is a leader of in it's ADA compliance. In the current
review, CWU is evaluating it's ADA compliance for even a more
heightened upgrade which will continue to put Central in the top tier
of university sites in it's ADA compliance.
The Office of Admissions and Registration is currently also
conducting an upgrade to it's pages which will directly affect how
you receive parent/student information. Within our mission, we are
here to help you receive information. I would also like to direct you
to call Admissions directly at 509-963-1211, or 866-CWU-4YOU.
Again, we appreciate your comments and will consider them as we move
forward in our assessment and update of the CWU Web site.
