Business Services and Contracts : Suggestions and Responses |
June 200806.08.03 I don't know who to get in contact with, but I think it would be really beneficial for students to know what clubs CWU offers. I had gone to EWU and they put on a Club fair during the first week of fall quarter. It helped me to know what the University offered. I was then able to get involved. I noticed that on the CWU club list, not everything is listed. I had no idea some of the clubs that CWU offered until I came across a flyer or something of that sort. Forwarded to - John Drinkwater, Senior Director, Campus Life and Student Facility Development Response - This is a good suggestion, and I will share it with the ASCWU Board of Directors V.P. for Clubs & Organizations. During the first week of Fall quarter clubs are provided tables in the Student Union to promote their organizations. Many clubs do this. Both Sports Clubs and general clubs are listed on respective web pages providing information for the student body. Club lists can also be obtained through the BOD Office. The club recognition process is such that not all clubs become recognized at the first of the academic years. Clubs are recognized throughout the year as they form. In fact we know that there are some clubs out there that don't go through the recognition process at all. These organizations do not have the right to avail themselves of the universities resources including scheduling and funding. If the person who made the suggestion would like further information, I would encourage them to meet with Nick Peacoclk, the BOD V.P. for Clubs & Organizations. His number is 509-963-1682. 06.08.02 What is the rationale behind tearing down much needed campus housing in order to put in a garden/park area? Shouldn't we be using the freed space wisely if we must clear it of the already present useful buildings? What about implementing more parking.....which is obviously a problem, regardless of how often we are told there is plenty of parking it is clear that this is not the case when you consider how often students and university employees alike are unsuccessfully hunting for parking spaces. Forwarded to - Rich Corona, Vice President, Business and Financial Affairs Response - The decision to take down Courson and Muzzall Halls was made after careful study of the long term viability of the buildings, including the cost of maintaining them in a useful and safe condition, and our inability to make them accessible to persons of disability under current codes because of their design. We do plan to maintain some parking in the area, however, new rules regarding the setbacks required from any riverine environments such as Wilson Creek make it very difficult to expand parking in that area. You may be interested to know that as a result of the construction of our new residence hall on Nicholson Boulevard we will be adding 200 new parking spaces to the campus inventory at that location.Rich Corona 06.08.01 As students we are expected to perform at a professional level within our courses, which includes submitting assignments on time.....we are also treated with a zero tolerance policy in terms of attempting to submit late forms for academic and graduation pursuits....is there a reason that our professors are not held to the same standards in terms of submitting their grades by the 5pm Monday after finals deadline? Forwarded to - Dr. Tracy L. Pellett, Professor & Associate Vice President for Undergraduate Studies Response - I agree with the student that faculty should be held responsible to their deadlines. It is stated in academic policy 5-9.4.36.7 Faculty must have grades posted on SAFARI by no later than 10:00 p.m. on the Tuesday after Final Examination Week. 2 working days after final exams are completed provides the instructors time to finalize all exams, projects and papers, and to submit their grades on Safari. Since this deadline was established about 2 years ago, we have received a much better response from faculty turning in their grades in a timely manner. The office of the Registrar begins notifying faculty and department chairs of missing grades the morning after grades are due. We will continue to remind faculty the importance of submitting timely grades, as it does effect financial aid, athletic eligibility, academic standing, and degree posting. We have also notified the new administration of this problem, so they can help support us in this endeavor. Thank you,Tracy Pellett |
