Subject - Groupwise 8.0

Suggestion - I have to delete the cookies, temporary files, and history on my computer every time I want to open a new email in my groupwise account. I don't have the page saved to my favorites. Is there a solution for this? This was not a problem until groupwise was updates to the newer version.

Forwarded to - Patricia Jack, Manager, ITS

Response - The user should not have to delete cookies and clear cache each time they want to open an email.

Due to the GroupWise 8.0 Web Interface update, your current browser web address for GroupWise may not function properly.

To correct this situation on a PC using Internet Explorer, follow the steps below:

  1. Delete all bookmarks/favorites/shortcuts for GroupWise on the web, as the address has changed.
  2. Navigate to a web-page other than GroupWise.
  3. Clear your browser's cache (temporary Internet files) and cookies by clicking on the Tools menu, then selecting Internet Options and then selecting Delete under Browsing History.
  4. Shutdown and restart your browser.
  5. In the browsers address bar, type: https://gwweb.cwu.edu.
  6. You can recreate your bookmark/favorite/shortcuts as soon as you get into GroupWise 8.0.

To correct this on a Mac, follow the steps below:

  1. Delete all bookmarks/favorites for GroupWise on the web, as the address has changed.
  2. Click on the word Safari in the upper left hand corner of your display.
  3. From the drop down list select Reset Safari.
  4. Shut down and restart your Safari browser.
  5. In the browsers address bar, type: https://gwweb.cwu.edu
  6. You can recreate your bookmark/favorite as soon as you get into GroupWise 8.0.

This information is also available on both the Student and Faculty/Staff Intranet sites in the Service Outages and Closures, and the Tech Bytes sections.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but we know once youre in GroupWise 8.0, you'll agree that the enhanced features and user interface are well worth this temporary inconvenience. Watch for the GroupWise 8.0 full client upgrade at work in the very near future.

If you are still having problems, please call the ITS Help Desk at 509-963-2001. We will garner more information and then resolve this problem.

Subject - Deleting Spam

Suggestion - For the past couple of weeks I have been receiving an overwhelming amount of Spam in my email every day. Before the recent upgrade of Novell, it was easy to just check the boxes of all the emails I wanted to delete. Now I have to delete each email one by one and when I get 30 spams, it becomes time consuming! Is there a way I can block Spam emails? Is there a way to highlight and delete several emails in the upgraded version of Novell that I am missing somewhere? Thank you.

Forwarded to - Carmen A. Rahm, Asst. VP for Information Technology

Response - SPAM: CWU recently implemented a way for CWU Faculty & Staff, and now Students, to do spam filtering at the enterprise level. This new tool is called "PreciseMail". You can access your PreciseMail setup via the Wildcat Connection, and click on SPAM GATEWAY. You can set your thresholds for spam, create block lists, create allow lists, check quarantined email and more. If you have questions, please contact the ITS Help Desk (963-2001) and they'll assist you or point you toward online documentation. Its' simple to use and very effective.

DELETING EMAIL: Having the "boxes to check" is actually no-longer used in most web email systems. However, it is still very easy to delete multiple messages at once, using the CONTROL functions that are used in many programs to select multiple items. By clicking the item you want to delete, and then holding the CTRL key (Command Key for Mac users) ... and clicking on all the others (1 at a time). Then just hit DELETE! You can delete as many individual messages as you want. If you want to delete many emails that are all in a row ... you can do this by clicking the first email to delete, holding the SHIFT key and then clicking the last email you want to delete. All the emails between the 1st and last will be highlighted for deletion. Then just hit DELETE! Again, if you have questions, please contact the ITS Help Desk at ext. 2001. They can assist you with any of these issues.

Subject - Deleting Mulitiple Emails

Suggestion - With the updated version of groupwise is there a way to delete multiple emails at once? What about screening trashy spam that comes through and doesn't have a return address?

Forwarded to - Patricia Jack, Manager, ITS

Response - To delete multiple adjacent emails at once the user needs to hold down the shift key then select the first email then go to the last one in the list and click on it, this will highlight all the ones in between, they can then be moved or deleted. To delete non-adjacent emails the process is similar, the user holds down the control key on a PC or the apple/command key on a Mac and select the emails they want to delete, this will highlight them so the user can easily see which ones they've selected. Kristi Gladen has written a good training manual GW Help Pages.

As for the spam, the user should log into wildcat connection, go to SPAM Gateway, from Spam Gateway they can set their own spam tolerance, add email addresses, specific words, and/or domains to either block or allow lists. Instructions for Spam Gateway

Of course, if you are still having problems they should call the Help Desk 509-963-2001.

Subject - Groupwise Client Download

Suggestion - I've seen groupwise programs all over campus and I know that I can set it up on my own computer. But I've looked all through the ITS website and while it mentions it everywhere, I cannot for the life of me find a link to download it or get it set up and working on my laptop. How can this be done?

Forwarded to - Patricia Jack, Manager, ITS

Response - The Groupwise client download is available by logging into Wildcat Connection, going to Accessing CWU-Net Services from the Internet and clicking on Groupwise & Messenger Client Download.

Subject - Visitation Tour Guides Safety

Suggestion - Hi. This is a very small thing you may want to consider. When we have gone on other college campus tours (UofW and OSU), the guide leads the group to a given location, stops, turns, and then starts talking. At CWU, the guides are always walking backward while they are talking. It really is not all that safe for the guides and people often times can't hear that well. Stopping and then talking seems more effective. We are thankful the CWU guides were knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We enjoyed our visit very much.

Forwarded to - Matthew Cziske, Assistant Director of Admissions & Visitation Supervisor

Response - I am pleased you enjoyed your visit to Central Washington University. Thank you for your comments and for your concern of our tour guides safety. The Visitation Program prides itself in giving charismatic, informative tours in a safe environment. The tour guides and I feel the continuous interaction with guests while walking backwards is part of what makes our visitation program unique and memorable. During my years as supervisor for the program I am happy to say we have had no injuries while walking backwards. I will bring your concerns for safety to our next staff meeting for discussion and work with them on improving their voice projection.

Thank you again for your comments, any suggestions on how we can improve our program is greatly appreciated.

Subject - Promoting Heirloom Tomato Festival

Suggestion - We are featuring an art show and a chefs challenge at our upcoming Tomato Fare 2009 at White Heron Cellars outside of Quincy on the way to Wenatchee. The heirloom tomato festival is on Labor Day, Sunday 9/6 from 4-9PM. We have FREE media passes. We'd like to get the information out to the Central Washington communities and are eager to have chefs get in touch with us and have amateur & professional artists, student artists, and artistssubmit photographs, ceramics, paintings and all forms of art inspired by the natural diversity of colors and shapes found in heirloom tomatoes.

Subject - Dean Nicholson Blvd Construction

Suggestion #1 - Get the East end of Dean Nicholson Blvd. open again!

Suggestion #2 - Can the opening of Nicholson Blvd. be sped up? This is very inconvenient. It is getting to be a real drag having to go a different route.

Suggestion #3 - The closure of Dean Nicholson Boulevard is a major inconvenience for everyone that comes or goes to the north campus from the east. The the work completion date on the closure sign has been pushed back twice, the last time by a month. Usually, street construction is planned ahead and done quickly to reduce inconvenience to drivers but this street is still torn up and it looks like the area has become a supply area for the dorm construction project. Please finish off the road work and reopen this street.

Forwarded to - Eric Fraley, Construction Coordinator Facilities Planning & Construction Services

Response - We realize that the closure of Nicholson Blvd has been an inconvenience to the campus as a whole. As you know, this is a major steam line and chilled water line crossing for the new student housing project. During the excavation of the crossing the contractor encountered unforeseen structures that required a redesign of how this crossing would be accomplished.

The street is now scheduled to be reopened by May 30th.
