Subject - CWU Alumni returning to Ellensburg

Suggestion - As an alumni moving back to Ellensburg am I able to use the swimming pool and recreation center free of charge? What about attending sporting events? How long will I be able to access and use my groupwise email account? Is there any way to filter trashy spam with the update version?

Forwarded to - Jim Armstrong, Director of Alumni Relations

Response - Unfortunately, alumni currently cannot use the swimming pool or recreation center although discussions are underway that may make this possible in the near future. Stay tuned.

Alumni can attend all sporting events for free or at a nominal charge, depending on the event. If they are members of the Alumni Association they can also enjoy the Cat's Den hospitality tent at football games. Alumni retain a CWU email account if they use it at least once per year.

Spam management under Groupwise is now more customizable - from the Intranet home page log on to the Wildcat Connection then click on the Spam Gateway in the column on the left.

Subject - Additional Lap Swim - Thank You!

Suggestion -Thanks for the additional lap swim hours added to the campus pool this quarter! It is great to see that student input on the suggestion box not only gets a response but there were also efforts made toward solving a concern!!!!!!!

Forwarded to - Debbie Nethery, Aquatics Supervisor

Response - Thank you for using the suggestion box. We are concerned about the wishes and ideas of the students and try to accommodate them in ways that are cost efficient and feasible within the schedule. We are very glad this seems to be serving the needs and desires of students.

Thanks again for utilizing the suggestion box.

Subject - Selling Condoms in the SURC

Suggestion - You guys should sell condoms at the SURC. Safe sex!

Forwarded to - Dan Layman, Director of Dining Services

Response - Thank you for the inquiry to sell condoms in our convenience store. Early on a decision was made not to sell the product because they are available free at the Campus Health Center, the Wellness Center and at the BOD office located in the SURC.

Subject - C Store Customer Service

Suggestion - The other day I was in the Student Union Building buying something from the C store and when I went up to the counter to pay I had to wait a whole minute and a half while the cashier took out their phone and texted someone, with my card held out I waited like this, and finally when they had finished texting, the put their phone away and gave me a nasty look for interrupting them. A couple of my other friends have mentioned similar things happening to them. Students who work in the student building should take their jobs much more seriously and treat the other students with respect. When I was a cashier in high school at a store, if my manager even saw a cell phone he would fire us. The rude nature and lax behavior is very annoying. I suggest that efforts are made to check up on the employees of the Dining Services often, and students be given some high working standards.

Forwarded to - Dan Layman, Director of Dining Services

Response - Thank you very much for the suggestion/inquiry.

Each day Dining Services serves over 5,000 guests. These range from ringing up the sale of items in the C-store to fixing items to order in the food court. We do customer service training with our students and we provide them with policies that include "Not using one's cell phone at work" While we try to police these policies and try and make sure students do not abuse the policies, our supervisory staff can't be everywhere all the time. We receive very few complaints regarding our employees for the number of guest we serve.

Thank you for the information and I have already spoken with the rest of the supervisory staff to let them know some issues have come forward. But just to let you know we do not allow texting or talking on one's cell phone at work. If it should happen again, please feel free to speak to a Supervisor, or contact me ( 963-1332) and provide me with the time, location and some information so we can discuss the issue with the employee.

Thank you!

Subject - Printing in Hebeler Labs

Suggestion - It's really frustrating when there is nowhere to print Sunday evening in Hebeler Hall. How long will this go on?

Forwarded to - Fred Stanley, System Analyst, Computer Science

Response - 203, 204, 209, and 218 are the general use labs in Hebeler, each with a laser printer. I placed an "out of order" sign on the printer in 203, the largest of the labs, last Friday afternoon, but the other printers in the other labs should have been available this past Sunday evening, as well as previous Sunday evenings. If you could provide me with additional information on which one of the labs did not have a printer available on Sunday, I can provide you with a more detailed answer. I can be contacted at 963-1443 or fcs@cwu.edu.

Subject - Free Parking

Suggestion - There's closer free parking than the lots on half this campus. The parking lots should be reconfigured to suit the whole campus equally.

Forwarded to - Trish Swanson, Program Support Supervisor, Parking

Response - Central Washington University is one of the few universities in the Pacific Northwest Region that offers free parking on university grounds. With preexisting limitation on parking and to better serve the greater number of individuals who purchase permits and come to campus daily we have located the free parking lots on the north end of campus. Central Washington University will continue to make parking available to those who frequent our campus and strive to service all our customers.

Subject- "Emotional Support" Dog

Suggestion -My son/daughter's physician has suggested an "emotional support" dog. Since such dogs are not considered offical service animals, are they allowed in university housing?

Forwarded to - Richard DeShields, Senior Director, University Housing & New Student Programs

Response -University Housing and New Student Programs' policy regarding pets is as follows, "Students are not allowed to have animals in the residence halls except for service animals and aquarium bound fish. Other animals, such as companion, therapy, emotional support comfort and/or "psychiatric" service animals that are not specially trained to perform a disability-related service may not be allowed in CWU residence halls and/or university-owned apartments. Qualified 'service animals' (as defined by state and federal law) are allowed on the CWU campus and in University Housing facilities. Determination of eligibility is made on a case-by-case basis by the CWU Director for the Center of Disability Services and the Senior Director of University Housing. Therapy animals are not considered as 'service animals' and are typically not approved."

While we know we aren't able to meet this request in our on campus housing, we do believe that our Center for Disability Services provides quality care for our students with these identified needs and I would encourage you to make contact with them by calling 509-963-2171.

Subject -Overnight Parking

Suggestion - Payed parking is seemingly set up as such that any overnight lot is only easily accessible to those who live in the Bassettis or those who frequent the SURC. During summer and spring months, this mostly goes unnoticed, however when the temperature is below freezing with a wind chill that is often below zero, even a seven minute walk from Dean, Hertz, or Kamola/Sue Lombard becomes extremely uncomfortable let alone potentially dangerous. My son has frequently voiced this complaint to me. What can we expect to be done about this issue?

Forwarded to - Tim Stowe, Public Safety & Police Services

Response - Over night parking is available in G-16 parking lot for students in Kamola Hall and Sue Lombard Hall which is 2 1/2 blocks away. O-5 parking lot has overnight parking just across "D" street from Dean Hall and 2 blocks away from Hertz Hall. Either lot is only a 3 to 5 minute walk which is often less than walking to classes. We seriously consider distance when planning where we place no overnight parking. We have no over night parking areas in place to accommodate those who must drive to CWU for class, business, and visitation.

Subject - 2009-2010 Calendar

Suggestion - You should update your website to have the calendar for 2009-2010 posted.

Forwarded to - Jesse B. Days, CWU Web Developer

Response - Thank you for your inquiry. From the CWU home page, under Future Students, we have several calendars listed. They include: Academic Yearly, Athletic, Events, Quarterly and the Catalog Academic Calendar.
