Business Services and Contracts : Suggestions and Responses |
April 200804.08.02 Driving around and around the nickpav parking lot looking for one available space would seem to be a collossal waste of time to most. But it appears clear to me that the usual dim-witted folks at facilities management want it that way. Why else would they repaint the lines every couple of years using the same overly generous dimensions. Perhaps they believe that everyone that parks there drives a Hummer. It is time for them to visit parking lots elsewhere armed with a tape-measure to see how 99% of the world handles parking in a finite space. By using a more conventional interval, they could easily add 25+ spaces and lessen the fruatation of students, staff and other CWU community members!!! Thanks, Marty Miller '71 and '81 Forwarded to - Kevin Higgins, Captain Operations Commander Response - Sorry to learn of your difficulty in trying to find a parking space. The lot was checked and we did find spaces outside our standard 8' 6" with a three inch stripe on either side. We will add it to our summer maintenance list. 04.08.02 It is hard to find the CWU phone directory on the web. Forwarded to - Jesse B. Days, CWU Web Developer Response - Hi, thanks for that "heads-up." Currently there are two ways to get to the phone directories. 1) From our INTRANET site, click on people in the left-hand menu. That brings you to a page where you choose single page directory or a searchable format. 2) From the CWU home page, click on ADVANCED SEARCHES in the top menu bar. That brings you to a page with numerous search options. The ADVANCED SEARCHES link is on most of the standard CWU pages. 04.08.02 The Observer's new format online is impossible to read. I cannot seem to increase the size of the text. It's a great idea to put the paper online but not if it cannot be read. Forwarded to - Lois Breedlove, Associate Professor - Communications Response - I just looked at the observer online because of the concern shared in the Suggestion Box submission. We will look at going to a html format. Thank you for the suggestion! 04.08.02 This is the only way I've found to contact you, so hope you don't mind passing this on to the correct department. I bought the alumni directory on CD last April, received it in Dec., tried for some time to get it to work on my computer with no luck. I returned it on Jan. 3 by writing "refused, return to sender for refund" on the original mailer. I enclosed a note explaining my valiant effort to make it work and asked for a refund. I can't find a phone number to call, but it was sent from the Publication Office in Virginia Beach, VA, which is where it was probably returned. Can you or somebody else help me with the refund? Gail Watson (Schneidmiller) Forwarded to - Jim Armstrong, Director of Alumni Relations Response - The Alumni Office will work with our vendor and you will receive a full refund for the CWU alumni directory. 04.08.02 I am not actually a student there at Central. Yet. I have applied but have not yet been accepted. I am hoping to get my degree in piano performance. But the math requirements are REALLY slowing things up. I would like to see a way that middle-aged men/women with substantial musical talent can be facilitated to their degree without having to go through the debilitating experience of struggling with academic curriculum and learning environments that prevent them from learning effectively in the math department. That is the ONLY thing holding me back. The math. IF I ever make it to Central, I would really like to study with someone who can teach me the finer points of my craft. Thank you, Leigh Ann Merley Forwarded to - Tracy Pellett, Associate Vice President for Undergraduate Studies Response - The question is a common one as it addresses the issue of education vs training. The answer is that CWU is committed to educationing students which includes developing broad areas of skills, knowledge, and dispositions besides focusing on professional skills, etc. This approach is designed to develop well-rounded students that achieve institutional goals. 04.08.02 It's spring break - how about some patrol on University Way. Students are gone - are the cops on spring break too? Average speed this week is about 35. Forwarded to - Kevin Higgins, Captain Operations Commander Response - The City of Ellensburg has primary jurisdiction on University Way. When we have time we do enforce traffic laws on the street. I checked the month of March and found we conducted 36 traffic stops on University Way. 04.08.18 You need to put a telephone number contact on CWU's main web page. Forwarded to - Becky Watson, Director of Public Relations and Marketing Response - Thank you for your excellent suggestion. I'm working on having that done. |
