Business Services and Contracts : Suggestions and Responses |
March 200803.08.14 There are always different High School and other groups on campus, most via our Conference Program or other sponsors. Why don't we publicize on the Intranet or other location who these groups are? We're all representatives of CWU, and what better way to make these groups feel welcome than for everyone to know who they are and why they're here. Perhaps an announcement each week in the Intranet saying "The following groups are on campus this week ... make them feel welcome". And then list the groups i.e. Boys State, Wresting Campus, Washington State Honors Choir, etc. Way too often I'm in the SURC having lunch with colleagues and wonder who that group is that's visiting CWU. It should be publicized more. Forwarded to - Cherie Wilson, Assistant Director, Student Union Operations Response - Thank you for your suggestion and willingness to represent CWU in such a positive way. The conferences that are on campus are listed on the CWU Calendar located off of the main CWU webpage. I have attached a link for your reference http://www.cwu.edu/wv3_sc_servlet/urd/run/wv_event.WeekList?evfilter=160271,evdt=20080314,ebdviewmode=list You can sort on the left side of the webpage by many different types of events on campus. If you click on "conference/workshop" you will see that we currently have the Washington State Thespian conference on campus. Thank you again for your suggestions. 03.08.10 Police patrol on University Way during peek hours. The speed limit on University Way from Ruby to Chestnut is 20 mph. The average speed of vehicles is approximately 25-35 mph. If the police ticketed speeders; they would make enough money to hire new police staff. Also, they could earn enough money to hire another police staff if patrol would ticket drivers running red lights. I cross University Way approximately 4 to 6 times a day. I find it extremely dishearting that even thought there are pedistrian lights, that other measures are not followed to decrease traffic violations on University Way. Drivers disregard people walking in the crosswalk and pass by as close as two feet away. This should also be discussed with Ellensburg police department. Forwarded to - Steve Rittereiser, Assistant Vice-President, Business Auxilaries and Public Safety Response - Tickets issued by CWU officers don't equate to any money in our budget as you have suggested. It breaks down as follows:
03.08.10 I'm a parent of a cwu student, why in the hell do I pay 20,000 a year when the lighting on campus sucks!! This endangers my daughter and others on campus. I've never seen such bad lighting on a campus. Why does the security phone number have two different numbers?? There should be one central number to call- and at all times a person should answer the phone. For 20,000 a "barney fife" rent a cop could at least answer the phone. there shouldn't even be a need to know where you are on campus if you call from a "call box" on campus. We have mircosoft here in washington- the system has no excuse not to be upgraded. Yes I know you have an escort service but that doesn't make any excuse not to have an upgraded secruity system in place and better lighting!!!! Forwarded to - Steve Rittereiser, Assistant Vice-President, Business Auxilaries and Public Safety Response - The International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA) has recommended crime prevention practices for campuses that we follow. For exterior lighting the recommendations include: A system of lighting fixture identification to assist in ease of reporting problems. A system of reporting malfunctions or burned out lights. Regular inspection of the grounds. Exterior security lighting should be controlled by photo cell. Over the years our tests of general walking surfaces, building entryways and parking lots range from 2 to 5 footcandles, which are general recommendations followed by campuses. The campus advertised number for immediate assistance is 911. The published non-emergency police, fire and ambulance response number county-wide is 509.925.8534. All police departments including Central have a business number available M-F 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM which may be the number you are referring to. Campus telephones that dial 911, emergency blue light phones and elevator phones direct connect to the 911 center and give exact location of the call. Cellular telephones do not. Our police department's mission includes "serving the public by furthering a partnership with the university community to protect life, property, prevent crime and resolve problems. We continuously strive to provide lighting that is both efficient and effective in terms of contributing to everyone's safety. Forwarded to - Robert J. Tosch, Director, Maintenance and Operations Response - The CWU main campus exterior lighting is monitored on a frequent basis with malfunction lights repaired as they are reported. Malfunctioning City of Ellensburg street lights adjacent to our campus are reported to the City electrical department for repair. CWU dedicates a portion of our allocated State of Washington capital funds to upgrading exterior lighting each biennium. Please contact me if you have specific suggestions for future exterior lighting upgrade locations and I will take your suggestions into consideration when planning our capital improvement projects. |
