History
In 1997, the Bridges Project was founded by Lois Breedlove, chair of the CWU Communication Department. Bridges began with just five CWU students volunteering their time to mentor middle and high school youth.
Today, thanks to years of support from the CWU Gear-Up grant program, Bridges sends out more than 50 college mentors to 12 schools statewide.
Bridges has expanded to include summer programs, technology camps, leadership conferences, and events designed to build confidence and self-esteem.
Our Goals
- To empower, encourage and motivate students from marginalized communities.
- To inspire cross-cultural learning through co-curricular teaching and activities.
