complete syllabus is available.
Reading Assignments: For each reading assignment be sure to send me an email [boersmas@cwu.edu] by 10:00 a.m. containing answers to the following questions:
- Did you understand the reading?
- Were there any definitions or theorems that you didn't understand?
- Were there any examples that you found particularly interesting?
- Also, answer any questions specific the the assigned reading.
- Begin reading section 1.2, pp 6-8, through example 1.7. Also, read all the definitions on page 11.
- Begin reading section 1.3, pp 14-15. You may be familiar with a more informal definition of a continuous function from calculus. Namely, a function was often considered continuous if you could sketch its graph without lifting your pencil. Can you relate the two definitions?
- Begin reading section 1.3. Do you understand why the function defined in example 1.30 is a homeomorphism while the function from example 1.31 is not?
- Read section 2.1.
