Introduction

The mission of the Department of Biological Sciences to "promote student understanding of biological concepts relevant to the individual and society," is central to the University's mission of preparing students for responsible citizenship and stewardship of the earth. Our faculty expertise serves as a valuable intellectual resource to assist Central Washington, the state, and the region in understanding and solving educational needs, health care issues and environmental problems. In addition, Biology's outstanding program, scholarship, and excellent teachers are essential to meeting the vision, core values and strategic goals of the University.
