INTRODUCTION

Our world is depleting, it is getting warmer, and soon hurricanes and storms will be stronger.  The polar ice caps will melt, taking away our beaches.  The oil wells will be dried up.  The planet as we know it will be but a sad, downgraded version of itself.  Some of you may have heard of Global Warming from Al Gore, or many other sources.  Well, it is upon us.  Our future is dire, unless we as people can make a drastic change.  For too long we have been abusing our planet, sucking dry all natural resources, and killing our green Earth.  Now you must find ways to stop global warming and slow down our consumption.

TASK
Barack Obama, our newly elected president, has appointed your group to his newly assembled energy team.  As the energy team he wants you to find out what should be focused on in order to solve our global warming issues. Your group must come up with a plan that will slow down our consumption, and allow us to keep the high expectations of our daily lives.  We must also be able to keep our industrialized economy.  This is a tall task for the new energy team, but we must be able to propose a few solutions to help this epidemic.  The United States is operating on a budget so we must keep cost in mind.  President Obama will invest into one of the several energy groups he listens to.  Your job is to conduct research and find out what plan of action America can take to stop Global Warming.  After doing the research the president will listen to your group's and several other's ideas.  Each group gets 15 minutes to present their plan of action, in this time you must convince the President why your group's plan is the best, the speech must include several features, including a poster.  The group that he chooses will get a permanent position in his cabinet.   In order to create your plan you must use all aspects of critical thinking to find out what is best.  Make sure to research from unbiased sites not trying to sell you their idea, but giving you accurate results, data, and information.
Speech Requirements for group:
- 15 minutes, no longer or shorter.
- Relative cost of your plan of action.
- The plan you are taking.
- The benefits of this plan.
- What is left off in this plan?
- Well-prepared, thought out speech.
Poster Requirements for group:
- Must include visuals to help speech.
- Includes at least two charts or graphs.
- Well formatted and put together.
- Visually pleasing.
- Has details on the plan of action.
- Convincing of your plan without the assistance of the speech.
Persuading Paper Requirements of each Individual:
- Two pages typed, double space
- Times New Roman
- Introduction and conclusion.
- Details of the plan, including cost and why it is effective.
- Convincing argument as to why this plan should be chosen.
- Free of spelling and grammatical errors.

PROCESS
While you are working on this I want you to think about the following questions as they pertain to your group's plan of action:

> What is Global Warming?
> What causes Global Warming?
> What can be done to eliminate those causes?
> How will my plan work in our industrialized world?
> Is my plan feasible?
> Do I sound Knowledgeable?
> Will the American Public accept this plan of action?
> I may be able to persuade the president but can I sell this to the Leigh man?
> What will this cost our government?
> Is this plan easy to implement?
> What are the benefits of this plan?
> What negatives will occur?
> Will it work?
> Am I using credible sources for my research?
> Is my speech interesting and full of information?
> Am I being persuasive in all three aspects?
> Does my paper and speech have smooth transition that flow from one idea to the next?
> Does my poster have important information?
> Is my poster, paper, and speech error free?

RESOURCES
When conducting research for this project you must consult other resources besides these in order to get a complete grasp on the subject:

> Several news articles discussing Global Warming.
> Global Warming Solutions
> Climate Repair
> Global Warming Basics
> Wind Energy
> Solar Energy
> Use the library for books on this topic.
> Here in Ellensburg there is a solar project you could visit to find out tons of information that will help you find energy solutions.
> In Vantage there is a multi billion-dollar wind farm that is happy to present all the necessary methods to slow down global warming.

Evaluation
Your grade will be based on these five rubrics.  Your speech, poster, and paper are all worth 20 points each, and your peer's review of your participation is worth ten points.  To view the rubrics click on the link.
> Group Speech Rubric
> Group Poster Rubric
> Individual Persuasive Paper
> Participation- filled out by each group member about other group member at the end of unit.

CONCLUSION
You have done it!  Now we have a plan to save our planet.  Hopefully this has raised your awareness about the growing problem.  Also, that this problem will not be solved by a small group of individuals working to solve it, global warming will only be ended with a group effort.  Try to raise awareness and do whatever steps you guys can do to go green with the only planet you will ever get.
