- ADD A COURSE
- If a course is closed the student needs permission of the instructor of the course they wish to add. The procedure requires that a student complete an add/drop form, obtain the instructor’s signature, and return the completed form to Registrar Services by the sixth day of the quarter.
- ADVISOR
- A faculty member who provides information and makes recommendations on courses, requirements, prerequisites and programs of study.
- ASCWU BOD
- The Associated Students of Central Washington University Board of Directors. ASCWU BOD is responsible for partial funding of student clubs and organizations, helping to make policy for students at the state level, and coordinating academic concerns. Elections to ASCWU BOD are held in April. The ASCWU BOD is located on the main level of the Samuelson Union Building (SUB) room 116.
- ATTENDANCE
- Each instructor decides his/her own policy on attendance. Students are strongly encouraged to attend the first class meeting. Attendance requirements are often included in the course syllabus or described by instructor on the first day of class.
- AVERAGE LOAD
- 14-16 credits per quarter
- BACCALAUREATE DEGREE
- A degree awarded by the University to a student who has completed his/her undergraduate studies.
- CALL NUMBERS
- A five digit number given to every course listed in the class schedule. This number identifies the course to REGI, and is used when enrolling, adding or dropping a course.
- CAPS REPORTS
- CAPS (Central’s Academic Progress System) analyzes the credits you have earned at CWU, the public two-and four-year schools in the state of Washington, and selected out-of-state two-and four-year schools. CAPS electronically evaluates how your courses meet the General Education, major, minor and graduation requirements.
- CATALOG
- Published annually, the CWU catalog contains general information on all University regulations and requirements, as well as information on degree programs, courses offered, and their descriptions.
- CLASS SCHEDULE
- Published each quarter, the class schedule is a listing of all courses offered in each department and for the quarter. The entry for each course includes course numbers, names, credit, time, place, call number and instructor.
- COLLEGE
- A degree-granting academic unit of the University. At CWU there are four colleges. The colleges are described in the catalog.
- CONNECTION CARD
- A plastic photo identification card that identifies a person as a CWU student and is the debit card for their account through University Housing. The Connection card also allows students to use the library, purchase student tickets for athletic and other campus events, and is required with a valid fee and activity card for other campus functions.
- CREDIT HOUR
- A unit of measurement to determine the quantity of work required of a student. Each credit hour is approximately equivalent to three hours of work per week. These three hours include time spent in class, studying, writing, labs or studio work.
- DEAN
- The administrative head of a college within a university.
- DEPARTMENT CHAIRPERSON
- The administrative head of an academic department within a college.
- DROP A COURSE
- A student may drop a course using REGI through the sixth day of the quarter.
- FEES
- Monies paid to the Cashier’s Office to cover the cost of education and University services.
- MAJOR
- The academic area of a student’s educational concentration.
- MINOR
- A group of courses which represent a subordinate area of study.
- PIN
- Personal Identification Number used to access CWU’s phone registration system (REGI). You receive your PIN at registration or by mail. If you have lost or forgotten your number you will need to contact Registrar Services.
- PREREQUISITE
- A requirement, a course(s) completed or placement scores attained, which must be met prior to enrollment in a particular course.
- PROFESSOR
- The highest professional rank a faculty member can achieve. Other faculty ranks include associate professor, assistant professor, and instructor.
- QUARTER
- A quarter is a 10-week period of instruction. There are three quarters in each academic year. A summer session is also offered.
- REGI
- Registration’s Exceptionally Great Innovation. The telephone registration system used to register for classes, get class schedule, or access grades.
- REGISTRATION
- The process of obtaining an official class schedule.
- STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT
- An outline of acceptable and expected conduct for CWU students. The code of conduct is published in the catalog. Violations of the Student Code of Conduct are adjudicated by the University judicial hearing officer.
- STUDENT HEALTH AND COUNSELING
- The center is located on the southeastern edge of the CWU campus, across from Meisner hall. Appointments are required except during a crisis or emergency. Health services include a full-time physician, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and registered nurses. They also include limited low-cost prescription and non-prescription medication, physical examinations, treatment for illness, and X-ray services. Counseling services include individual counseling for depression, anxiety, and relationship issues. Group sessions address AD/HD, eating disorders, stress management, and test anxiety. The staff includes three psychologists and two mental health counselors.
- SYLLABUS
- A form describing the course requirements which is distributed by instructors during the first class meeting. The course syllabus contains important information about lecture topics, homework assignments, attendance requirements, class projects, exam dates, grading procedures, and instructor office hours.
- THE BURG
- 88.1 FM The Burg is the campus radio station broadcasting 24 hours a day from the SUB. The Burg broadcasts cultural and entertainment programs, offering an alternative to other communication resources in the area. It is a great source for information on activities, issues and events in the community and University.
- TRANSCRIPT
- The official (legal) record of a student’s academic courses and grades.
- UNIVERSITY BOOKSTORE SUB.
- The University bookstore is located on the main level of the bookstore sells new and used textbooks, supplies, computer supplies, art supplies, fiction and non-fiction books, and gift items. A special section of the bookstore carries a full line of CWU sportswear and memorabilia that carries the official CWU emblem.
- WELLINGTON
- The official CWU mascot, the Wildcat, appears at sporting events and at other University activities.
- WELLNESS CENTER
- Located in Sue Lombard Hall across from the Campus Connection Card Office. Services include health education, alcohol/drug prevention and screening and programs to promote wellness, prevent sexual assault and sexually transmitted diseases. The Director of Wellness is the CWU Sexual Assault Response Coordinator.
