AAC : Mission Statement

Mission Statement

The mission of the Academic Advising Center is to coordinate and support an advising program that consistently provides students with information and counsel that they need to develop sound educational and professional goals and to make effective decisions about the University courses and programs that will enable them to realize their goals.

The Academic Advising Center supplements and supports Central Washington University's faculty-based advising program. Staff includes the Director of Academic Advising, a general Academic Advisor, a Multicultural Advisor, and student assistants who act as peer advisors.

The Center staff will provide the following services for students:

  • Answer questions concerning academic policy, transfer credit, CAPS reports, the appropriateness of general education courses, applying to a major, petitioning for exceptions to policy, etc.
  • Make referrals to additional advising resources and academic support services, including faculty, Career Development Services, Disability Support Services, Academic Skills Program, Student Affairs, etc.
  • Provide advising and counseling support for minority students.
  • Publish the Academic Advising Handbook and general education worksheet.
  • Provide quarterly academic orientation workshops for new students and assist with registration.
  • Coordinate UNIV 101, Academic Advising Seminar.

Underlying all of these services are the goals of educating students so that they might assume their appropriate responsibilities in the academic advising process.
