Help - FAQ
How do I get my PIN?A permanent PIN will be assigned by the registrar's
office. If you have lost, or forgotten your PIN, you can call the Registrar's Office at 509-963-3001, or stop into the 1st floor of Mitchell Hall to be issued a new one. How do I get an advisor? If you are looking for an advisor that is from your
intended major, please contact the specific department.
However, staff in the Academic Advising office can recommend
what faculty advisor to contact in a potential major
department. If you are looking for general advising, there are
three advisors available in the Academic Advising Center.
They can help you with general education and basic and
breadth questions, as well as answer questions about CAPS
reports and transfer questions. How do I declare a major?Students should contact the department in which the intended major is located. For example, a Chemistry student
would need to contact the Chemistry department to see what the qualifications are to be a Chemistry major. What do I do if I don't know what I want to major in?Career Services has resources to help
students determine a major according to what their interests, skills, and abilities are.
Career Services is located in Barge Hall Room 204 and can be reached at 509-963-1921, or
509-963-2424. How can I find out if I am finished with my basic and breadth classes or see what classes I still have to take in my major? All CWU students can print a CAPS Report. This report will
show all the classes that you
have taken, the requirements you have fulfilled, and any
classes you still need to take to finish your basic and
breadth, as well as you major and minor. Other students not
meeting the above criteria should meet with an advisor in the
Academic Advising Center to determine their status and
whether or not they will require a Credit Evaluation.
Appointments can be made in person in Hertz Hall Room 107,
by phone at (509) 963-3523, or by sending an e-mail to aac@cwu.edu. I have questions about my CAPS report. Where do I go?Students can contact the Academic Advising Center for any
questions they have regarding their CAPS report. If there are
errors, or changes need to be made, the student will be
referred to Degree Checkout in Mitchell Hall after
determining the problem. I plan to transfer to Central from another school. How can I find out what classes will transfer or what classes I should take?Generally, all college level classes (101 level and above)
will transfer for credit if you are transferring from a
Washington State Community College and you will have a Direct Transfer Agreement(DTA)(other degrees are allowed depending on school,
go here for
degrees listed by school). If you transfer with a DTA, all of your
Basic Skills and Breadth requirements will be fulfilled. If you are
planning to transfer without an accepted transfer degree,
please make sure that you meet with an advisor prior to
transfering to determine which classes to take and those
that will apply to Central's requirements. Click here to see
a list of Washington State Community College
Equivalancies. I currently go to a school that is on the semester system. How will my credits transfer to Central since it is on a quarter system?Semester credits transfer on a 1=1.5 basis. For example,
if you are transfering a 3 credit class from a semester
school, you would be awarded 4.5 quarter credits. I am attending Central now, but I am going to transfer to another school. What classes should I be taking? To determine which classes you should be taking, you need
to contact the school to which you will be transfering.
Central staff cannot tell you what classes will transfer to
another school. I will be a new student next quarter. When do I register for classes?Click here to go to the
Freshmen and Transfer student registration information
page I may have failed a class. How will this affect my Financial Aid?You will need to contact the Financial Aid office to see what effect your academic standing will
have on your Financial Aid status. Financial Aid is located in
Barge Hall 115 and can be reached at 509-963-1611. I have questions regarding my major. Can I visit the Academic Advising Center for help with this?Typically, when a student has questions regarding a major program, these should be directed to
an advisor within that major department. If no one is available, it is possible that the
Academic Advising Center may be able to answer general questions about the program. However, we
recommend you work closely with your major advisor to ensure accuracy with your major requirements. I have a hold on my SAFARI account. What do I do?Each quarter students should check their Holds Summary in SAFARI to see if there are
any holds on their accounts. Each hold title is a link to the description of the hold. Here students can
determine what the hold is for, and what office to contact to have it removed. If students have Freshman
Advising holds they need to contact their UNIV 101 instructor to have the hold removed. I'm having problems registering for classes, and see error messages. Who can I contact? For questions about SAFARI and registering for classes, you can contact the
Registrar's Office at 509-963-3001, or visit the first floor of Mitchell Hall for assistance.
