ELLENSBURG, Wash. — For their play in Central Washington University’s 44-0 football victory Saturday at Dixie State University in St. George, Utah, two Wildcats have received Great Northwest Athletic Conference Red Lion Player of the Week honors.
Running back Jordan Todd was named the co-Offensive Player of the Week. A sophomore from Newport High School in Bellevue, the 5-6, 186-pound Todd ran for 226 yards on 24 carries, which included a 55-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. He became just the 12th player in CWU football history to surpass the 1,000-yard rushing barrier. Todd, who missed one full game with an injury and half of a second, ended the season with 1,213 yards. He ranked No. 17 in the nation, rushing for an average of 121.3 yards per game. He also scored nine touchdowns during the season.
Linebacker Ridge Nielsen was named the Defensive Player of the Week. A senior from Mesa, Arizona, Nielsen recorded 10 tackles, including 3 ½ for losses of 20 yards. He helped CWU post its first GNAC shutout in two years. Nielsen completed the season ranked third in the GNAC in tackles for losses with 13, sixth in sacks with six, and eighth in tackles with 66. He also intercepted two passes, one that he returned 51 yards for a touchdown. In addition, he was named to the 2013 GNAC Academic all-conference football team for earning a 3.27 grade point average in business administration.
