Dan Dixon

Dan Dixon has served Swedish Health Services as vice president for external affairs since July 2007, after advising Swedish as a consultant for two years. In this role, Dixon coordinates public policy and legislative activity for Swedish, working closely with the Washington State Hospital Association (WSHA) and other health-care systems as appropriate to ensure that Swedish's and the industry's interests are represented with legislators and other policy-makers. The areas of corporate communications, marketing and business development report to him. In addition, he oversees Primary Care and Community Outreach for Swedish.

Dixon has more than 25 years of experience in the public and private sectors in law, government relations, business development, finance, international affairs and corporate affairs. He has led the development of major government departments and national investment banking organizations, while successfully leading efforts to build significant business opportunities and addressing numerous complex community issues.

Dixon was the state of Alaska's first director of international trade and investment. In this capacity he was charged with the formation of the state's trade goals and objectives, developing the state's trade policy on behalf of the governor and in concert with the state legislature, instituting a foreign investment campaign, inaugurating and directing Alaska's trade offices in Tokyo, Seoul and Taipei and working closely with the governor and legislature on trade and funding issues. In addition to increasing trade, he developed a statewide economic development program. Later, Dixon practiced law for many years with the firm of Foster Pepper and Shefelman. As a lawyer, investment advisor and general securities principal at the Seattle-based law firm, Dixon built a leading practice as an authority in domestic and international business, politics, community relations and finance. He inaugurated and helped build the firm's nationally recognized public investment fund practice.
