Amy Lynn McCoy is currently a senior majoring in Geography at Central Washington University. Her studies focus on human geography and historic preservation.
After graduating from Canyon High School, Santa Clarita, California, Amy served in the National Guard and the United States Army as a combat medic.
Before returning to school, Amy worked as a Consumables Team Leader at Target. She was an active volunteer with the Northwest Chapter Arthritis Foundation, specifically with the Kids Get Arthritis Too Program, Jingle Bell Run, and Tacoma Arthritis Walk.
McCoy earned an Associate’s Degree from Tacoma Community College (TCC). While a student, she held leadership positions in the Environmental Club, Sustainability Advisory Committee, Legislation and Records for Student Government and was elected President of the Associated Students of Tacoma Community College Student Body Government. One of her accomplishments was organizing the “I AM” campaign that featured TCC students telling their stories about their education. It was presented to state legislators during the debates regarding budget cuts to higher education and financial aid programs for which she received the President’s Award for her service.
At Central, McCoy is active in the Geography Club and Oxfam Club. In 2013 she presented a poster at SOURCE and received the Anthony Soward’s Geography Phoenix Scholarship.
She is a single mother of three children and volunteers regularly at Lincoln Elementary in Ellensburg Washington. McCoy looks forward to serving the citizens of Washington and Central Washington University in her capacity as a student trustee.
