Board of Trustees

Alex Harrington, Student Trustee

Alex Harrington, Student TrusteeCWU senior Alex Harrington will serve as the Board of Trustees' student representative during the 2019-20 academic year. He was one of five nominees for the position and was appointed by Governor Jay Inslee in June. As the student trustee, Alex will be a full voting member on all issues except matters related to hiring or discipline of personnel, tenure of faculty, and collective bargaining agreements.

Alex is a political science major and Bellevue College graduate. During his time at CWU, he has worked as an office assistant for the Dean of Students and is a voting member on the Services and Activities Fee Committee, the Student Conduct Council, and the Election Commission.

He also serves as a McNair Research fellow, performing his undergraduate research on the history and development of solidarity between the Israeli Black Panther Party and the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO).

As a trustee, one of Alex's goals is to ensure that implementing the state's new minimum wage won't result in student fee increases. He also would like to increase student retention by placing a renewed emphasis on student health services, and look for ways CWU can lead the state in making college more accessible to prospective students.

Once Alex graduates next spring, he hopes to pursue a PhD in public administration. His term will run through June 2020.
