The smoke stacks of industry and the innocence of bucolic farmlands clah in 1840s Coketown, England, as the Industrial Revolution begins to change the face of humanity forever. This adaptation by Stephen Jeffries remains true to the episodic nature of Charles Dickens classic novel which examines the impact of education and industry on humanity and asks each of us to ponder that which makes us human and how we all find the fortitude to survive.
