Playwriting, stage blood, wigs, masks, and teeth are among the topics covered in workshops offered during the Washington State Thespians Annual Festival this week at Central Washington University.
More than 1,000 student thespians and adult chaperones from 38 state high schools are expected to attend the Thursday through Saturday conference. Students will participate in workshops, watch their peers perform in plays and musicals, compete for showcase performances, and audition for scholarships. CWU will award tuition waivers of $500 to $3,000 to the winning students, which can be used fall quarter at any CWU campus for any field of study.
The numerous workshops will teach students about audition techniques and monologues, improvisation, acting in commercials, dialects, African dance, scene painting, stage lighting, and much more. A Thursday evening audition gives students a chance to perform in a musical production planned for Saturday’s closing ceremony.
