Department Graduation Requirements

Together with the academic requirements detailed in your CWU catalog and this manual, theatre majors must fulfill these department graduation requirements:

  • All BA and BFA Performance and BFA Musical Theatre students are required to audition for every main stage production.
  • All majors must participate as a member of at least one backstage running crew documented through registration in TH 310/401.
  • Any student who fails academic requirements for the major will be placed on either Production Probation or Production Suspension. Failing an academic requirement means receiving an F in any course in the major, receiving below a C- in a prerequisite class, or having a cumulative GPA below 2.0.
  • 1st Occurrence - Production Probation: Emails are sent to the student and their advisor’s CWU accounts, stating that the student is on Production Probation starting the following quarter. This warns the student that he/she is in danger of being suspended from production activities if he/she receives a second F in a majors’ class, fails to pass a second prerequisite course with a C- or better, or does not bring the GPA above 2.0 in the following quarter. The student is required to meet with his/her advisor to develop a plan to get the student back on track. The student remains on Production Probation until such time as he/she passes the course he/she failed, passes the prerequisite course with a C- or better, or brings his/her cumulative GPA above 2.0.
  • 2nd Occurrence - Production Suspension: If the student fails a majors class, fails to pass a prerequisite course with a C- or better, or allows his/her cumulative GPA to drop below 2.0, letters are again sent to the student and his/her advisor, notifying them that the student has been placed on Production Suspension beginning the following quarter. A student suspended from production activities may not participate in any way in production; beginning the quarter they are first suspended. (i.e. If the student was already involved in some way the role or assignment will be withdrawn from him/her and he/she will not be allowed to audition or seek a crew assignment until removed from suspension.) Suspension includes performance, auditioning, crew work, designing, or any other production activity.

The student is required to meet with their advisor to develop a plan to get the student back on track. The student remains on Production Suspension and unable to participate in production in any way until such time as he/she passes the course[s] he/she failed, passes the prerequisite course[s] with a C- or better, or brings his/her cumulative GPA above 2.0.
