ELLENSBURG, Wash.  — How would you prepare for the end of the world? In Peter Sinn Nachtreib’s comedy, BOOM, a simple response to a Craigslist “casual encounter ad” may change the course of the world. Central Washington University Central Theatre Ensemble’s BOOM is the story of who survives when the universe decides to cause a global catastrophic event.

A slightly nerdy marine biologist, Jules (played by Ryan Bohannon), has discovered a behavioral pattern in fish that suggests the humankind is doomed. So he places a Craigslist ad, searching for a woman to help him repopulate the earth. His ad is answered by Jo (played by Chauncey Trask). However, there are a few problems with Jules’s plan: he’s gay, and Jo doesn’t like kids. Will the future of mankind be fatally compromised? And who is the mysterious Barbara (played by Skye Stephenson)? Find out in this fast-paced, witty production, directed by Patrick Polsin.

BOOM is produced, directed, designed, staged, and acted entirely by students in CWU’s Theatre Arts program. 

BOOM will be performed January 27 and 28 at 7 p.m., and January 29 at 2 p.m., in the Milo Smith Tower Theatre. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $8 for seniors/students, and $5 for CWU students. Due to mature content, the play may not be suitable for children.
