Admittance to the Theatre Arts Department Programs

1. Admission to the Theatre Arts BA degree program

Admission in the degree program follows acceptance into Central Washington University from an accredited secondary school program, community college or four-year institution.

  • Students seeking a BA degree must complete one year of college/university study or two years of high school study of a single foreign language.
  • All students considering a Theatre major are encouraged to read the Theatre Arts Handbook. When you are accepted into the major you will be required to acquire the most current edition of this book.
  • Complete a Theatre Arts Major Application Form.

  • Schedule a meeting with the department Chair to discuss the department, the Theatre Arts degree programs.
  • Following the application and interview process, students accepted into the major are assigned a faculty advisor.  Students are required to meet with their advisor during department advising day each quarter. Students may request another Advisor at any time through the Department Chair.
  • Majors receive an ID card, which allows them to receive free admission to all department productions.

Please Note- While we make every effort to respect every student’s privacy, there are times the faculty must discuss a given student’s progress in order to decide how we may best help the student. Therefore, please remember that any information told to your advisor is not confidential among faculty.

2. Admission to the Theatre Arts BFA degree programs

Admission to the BFA is by audition/interview. Auditions/interviews begin with an online screen process which can be found at www.getacceptd.com/cwu  

  •  All students considering a Theatre major are encouraged to read the Theatre Arts Handbook. When you are accepted into the major you will be required to acquire the most current edition of this book.
  • Following the application and interview process, students accepted into the major are assigned a faculty advisor in their area of emphasis. Students are required to meet with their advisor during advising week each quarter.
  •  Majors receive an ID card, which gets them free admission to all department productions.

3. Admission to the Theatre Arts Minor
The minor is obtained by completing a minimum of 30 hours of theatre courses as outlined in the catalogue. No one course may be repeated to count within the hours prescribe for the minor. Minors are encouraged to become involved in the department as much as possible.
Applying for the minor:
Obtain and read the current Theatre Arts Handbook the catalog under which you declared the minor.

  • Complete a minor application available on-line.

  • Minors must meet with their advisor during department advising week each quarter. Students may request another advisor at any time through the Department Chair.
  • A student may be required to audition or show portfolio to department faculty as an aid in class placement.
