Central Washington University welcomes Wildcat families
to Ellensburg on May 11, 12 and 13

Family Weekend is a longstanding tradition at CWU. During this weekend we invite family members to campus to visit their students and participate in fun activities.

Haru Matsuri (Japanese Spring Festival)

2 - 7 p.m • Japanese Garden • Japanese Garden

Partnering with AUAP, International Department, and Campus Activities presents Haru     Matsuri, a Japanese theme festival with activity booths, and food. Their will also be          traditional performances and educational material to immerse yourself in Japanese history and culture. This event will be a family friendly event catered to both kids and adults alike.

CWU Ring & Medallion Ceremony - FREE
4 pm • SURC Ballroom
Students and alumni who’ve ordered class rings and their guests; students, alumni and staff who’ve earned the Traditions Keeper medallion and their guests. Enjoy heavy hors d’oeuvres, refreshments and music with students, alumni and administrators, followed by the Presentation of the Class Rings and Traditions Keeper Medallions. 

Central Theatre Ensemble presents: Legally Blonde
7:30 p.m. • McConnell Auditorium
How do you defy expectations while staying true to oneself? Find out in this high-energy musical Rom-Com, with song titles like “Omigod You Guys,” and “Serious.” Parental Guidance: Parents may consider some material unsuitable for their youngest children. May include situations, language, or actions that may startle some patrons.

HipHop Violinist: Josh Vietti

Discover the hip-hop and jazz infused violin sounds of this nationally touring musician for one special night! Vietti has opened for bands like Earth Wind & Fire, Ne-Yo and Lil Wayne, and was recently featured on the Ellen Degeneres Show.

Yakima River Float
9:45 a.m. check in
Departs Outdoor Pursuits & Rentals (OPR) at 10 a.m., returns at 2 p.m.
Enjoy the beauty of the Yakima River Canyon, one of the most scenic areas in the state. We'll provide guides, transportation, gear and lunch.

Wild Horse Wind Farm Tour
9:45 a.m. check in, departs SURC East Patio at 10 a.m., returns at 1 p.m.

1:45 p.m. check in, departs SURC East Patio at 2 p.m., returns by 5 p.m.
Discover incredible Central Washington wind turbines up close! Explore the 52 kw solar array, wind turbine blade, turbine generator and gearbox, and get a look inside the base of an active wind turbine. 
*$12/person | Closed-toed shoes required

Historic Downtown Ellensburg Tour –FREE
11 a.m. • Reservation required, free tickets available through registration site • Departs from Kittitas County Historical Museum, 3rd Avenue near Pine Street. Discover architecture, hidden gems, learn about the great Ellensburg fire, and discover many other interesting facts. You'll also meet merchants and hear about the events and festivals that make Ellensburg a great destination and home away from home.

Recreation Center Fitness Pass -FREE
12 p.m-9 p.m. • Recreation Center
Get your sweat on with the family in the CWU Recreation Center all day Saturday, for free! Be sure to register for Family Weekend in order to get your Family Weekend Recreation Center Pass. During Recreation Center hours of operation, you will have access to the facility and all of our amenities (see Climbing Wall program listing for information on bouldering & top-rope belaying). Please note that age restrictions apply, per Recreation Center policy (visit www.cwu.edu/rec for details).

2018 Juried Undergraduate Student Art Exhibit
1:00 - 4:00 p.m. • Sarah Spurgeon Gallery
An annual exhibition showcasing outstanding undergraduate student artwork created during the past academic year.

Climb CWU Rock Wall
1-4 p.m. • Recreation Rock Wall
Want to try to climb to the top of the 50 foot climbing wall?  Bouldering (climbing below   12 feet) is free, or you can pay $5 to have staff member belay you and you can try to go all the way to the top of our 50 foot wall!! Harnesses are included in the price and you can rent climbing shoes to make it easier for $2.  *Minimum age is 6 yrs. old.  No experience necessary.
*FREE for Bouldering, $5 for Belaying at Recreation Membership Desk

Challenge Course: Alpine Tower & Giant Swing
3-6 p.m. • CWU Challenge Course
Come challenge your family members by climbing 50 feet on our Alpine Tower or swinging 35 feet high on our Giant Swing!  Participants will get the chance to maneuver their way across a tight rope, scale the 50-foot high Alpine tower and soar through the air on the giant swing. *Pro tip- don’t forget to check out the beautiful views of Mount Stuart when you are standing at one of the highest points in Ellensburg.
No experienced needed. Participants must wear closed-toe shoes and active clothing.
*$10 GA, $10 CWU Students w/ID

Gallery One: Paint & Sip

Family members of all ages are invited to paint a picture, enjoy fruit punch and coffee, and create art alongside some of Ellensburg's finest artists.

Celebrate the mothers in your life and enjoy a delicious brunch by Dining Services. Live music will enhance your brunch atmosphere!
