The Early Childhood Classroom Aide works under direct supervision and will perform classroom work following defined work procedures and priorities to meet the needs of children ages 1 to 5 years old enrolled in the Child Development Center.
The Early Childhood Classroom Assistant works under general supervision and will provide direct educational instruction and activities to meet the needs of children ages 1 year to 5 years enrolled in the center.
Positions report to the Director and/or Manager of the Child Development Center and work under the direction of the Lead Teacher, i.e., Early Childhood Education Specialist 3
Duties & Responsibilities:
Classroom Support: Encourage Language development; foster independence and self-help skills; assist in ensuring that children are involved in activities suited to their immediate emotional, social, intellectual and physical needs; provides activity options to children; assist children in taking responsibility for equipment and materials they use and in being considerate of others; model appropriate behavior; use developmentally appropriate communication skills; respond to children with respect, courtesy and understanding of their developmental stage of growth; assist with preparation, presentation and clean up of projects and activities such as art projects, stories, songs, outdoor activities and bulletin boards; participate in indoor and outdoor activities and games with children; may transport children, parents and staff; prepares materials and equipment under the direction of a lead Teacher, Manager or Director or other higher level staff; store and maintains educational equipment and materials maintain records; make use of opportunities to expand knowledge and expertise.
Classroom Supervision and Personal Interactions: May assist with the implementation of Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP) to address children's physical, emotional, social and cognitive development; may assist with the implementation of curriculum to include indoor and outdoor activities; may direct children in educational activities as well as during lunch, nap time, free time, field trips, and transition between activities and playground periods; may present basic developmental materials to children and encourage individual work and development; assume responsibility for children for specified period when the Lead Teacher, Manager or Director is absent; may implement guidance techniques that respect the individuality of each child.
Program Support: Assist with maintenance of a healthy and safe environment; function as a member of a team-oriented staff and participate in staff meetings and in-service training or District activities; comply and state requirements and adhere to policies as stated in the Child Development Center handbook.
Customer Service: Communicate routinely with parents in an open professional manner that demonstrates respect for diverse parenting styles and cultural differences; receives visitors and telephone inquiries; explains procedures and program routine.
Assessment and Program Development: May periodically assess classroom and program strengths and needs; communicates with Lead Teacher, Manager and/or Director; may periodically assess classroom and program strengths and needs, and each child's developmental progress.
Minimum Qualifications / Skills Needed:
Thirty (30) quarter hours or twenty (20) semester hour of college coursework in Early childhood Education OR Minimum of six months experience working in an early childhood program, special education or similar field, OR equivalent education and experience.
he successful candidate will demonstrate: Early Childhood Development: Ability to develop positive relationships with children using methods of guidance that are individually and culturally appropriate.
Child Care: Knowledge of appropriate techniques for diapering, sanitation, napping, feeding, and toilet training.
Health & Safety: Ability to understand and follow health and safety regulations, and other standards. -Ability to observe danger, alert children and physically remove them from dangerous situation.
Inclusiveness, Relationship Building skills: Ability to create environments which provide for the inclusion of all children, including children with disabilities and diverse language, socioeconomic and/or cultural background.
Why do you need this position?:
Applicants must be willing to work at both campuses, i.e., Fort Steilacoom (Lakewood) & Puyallup. Hours vary and require a flexible work schedule and work location. Positions will not exceed 69 hour per month and are not eligible for benefits. Salary if $1300-$15.00 per hour dependent upon qualifications.
