Job Description: 
Afterschool Safe Place: State licensed, non-profit program for 40 elementary students Monday-Friday 2:30 p.m.-6:00 p.m.–(academic year only)

Duties & Responsibilities: 
• Facilitate "Leaders in Training” club for 10-12 fifth grade students as they transition into middle school • Implement a variety of activities promoting personal growth through leadership, communication, teamwork and decision-making skills • Ensure safety of each student in every activity through careful planning and good judgment • Focus on the interests and needs of 5th grade students by adapting an existing curriculum • Model problem solving skills; ensure that all students are treated fairly and situations are resolved • Communicate effectively and professionally with director, staff members, students and parents • Organize and maintain “Club room” in an inviting way; • Execute other duties as assigned by on-site director.
Minimum Qualifications / Skills Needed: 
• Experience working/volunteering with elementary or middle school students • Must demonstrate a genuine interest in children and be a team player • Self-starter who has demonstrated leadership abilities, maturity and discretion • Ability to model respectful interactions with students, staff, parents and director • Willingness to take direction, and be flexible in supporting other team members • First aid and CPR required. (A class will be offered for staff)

This position provides 5th grade students the opportunity for personal growth through learning leadership, communication, teamwork and decision–making skills. This allows Afterschool Safe Place to more fully meet the needs of this specific age group.
What educational benefits will the student gain from this position?: 
The student will gain experience in leadership, functioning as part of a team, planning and implementing activities for youth, and modeling effective, respectful communication skills. Students will also receive 20 hours training in school-age guidelines (Required by State of Washington) and child guidance procedures.
