Summer Pest Program Trapper #3014
Job Description: 
The Washington State Department of Agriculture is looking for Apple Maggot field trappers for the 2013 survey season. These are nonpermanent state positions and will not lead to permanent employment with the state. Duration: Apple Maggot (AM) Trappers begin work the afternoon of June 17. AM trappers report to Yakima for orientation where they receive a state-issued vehicle, training, and supplies. AM trappers will typically work Monday-Thursday, four-10 hour shifts per week until mid-to late-September, after which supplies and vehicles are turned in. Location: Central and Eastern Washington (with most openings in Yakima,Kittitas County and Tri-Cities areas) a few openings are anticipated in Okanogan and Douglas Counties. Job Description: AM trappers must be able to place, monitor and remove about 400-600 insect traps. Trappers will utilize maps, collect and record accurate data. A state vehicle is provided for survey duties. Trappers will be responsible for the safe and legal operation of their vehicles, effective placement and servicing of their traps, and maintaining good public relations. Trappers collect data and maintain digital, electronic databases using a handheld digital Netbook. Minimal experience necessary, all training provided. Minimum Qualifications: A trapper must be 18 years of age. A trapper is required to have a valid WA state driver's license and be willing and able to operate a state owned motor vehicle. Desirable Qualifications: Ability to read and draw maps. Interpersonal skills. Willingness to work outdoors. Experience using personal computers.
