Math and English Placement

In order to take college level math and English, students must qualify to enroll either by taking developmental courses or by testing into the courses and submitted official records of those scores. CWU does NOT accept Accuplacer test scores for placement.

To qualify for ENG 101:      

  • Score a 500 or higher on the verbal section of the SAT
  • Score a 19 or higher on the English ACT
  • Score a 75 or higher on the Writing Compass
  • Pass ENG 100T at CWU

To qualify for MATH 101, 102, 130, or 164:

  • Score a 500 or higher on the math section of the SAT
  • Score a 19 or higher on the math section of the ACT
  • Score a 50 or higher on the pre-algebra Compass
  • Score a 26 or higher on the algebra Compass
  • Earn a C or better in CWU’s Math 100B
  • Students may qualify to take college level math if they have passed intermediate algebra. Please speak with a general academic counselor or the Math Department about the potential of qualifying for enrollment into MATH 101, 102, 130, or 164 if you have taken Intermediate Algebra.
