James E. Brooks Library Presents: “Women Pilots of War II” Exhibit Sponsored by the International Women’s Air & Space Museum

James E. Brooks Library is celebrating March Women’s History Month by hosting the exhibit “Women Pilots of War II” honoring the contributions of Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP’s) sponsored by The International Women’s Air & Space Museum. Featured in the exhibit is Mary Louise Webster who was an Ellensburg native and Central Washington University student.

The exhibit honors the group of 1,102 young women who served the United States as Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP). The WASP collectively flew over 60 million miles in 77 different kinds of aircraft. The women ferried planes, towed targets, gave flying instruction to male cadets, and more. The women were not permitted to fly combat missions but their contribution to the war effort was essential to the success of the U.S. military.

The exhibit is on display in the library lobby during library hours throughout the month of March.
