The Central Washington University Rodeo Club is hosting its annual intercollegiate rodeo April 26 to 28 at the Ellensburg Rodeo Arena. Admission is free and open to the public.
The CWU College Rodeo will feature clubs from the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) Northwest region, including Walla Walla Community College, Boise State University and Eastern Oregon University.
The rodeo festivities begin Friday, April 26 at noon with the slack performance. The main performance is later that night at 6 p.m., where fans can watch Central attempt to bring home the victory as the club jockeys for position within the NIRA Northwest Region standings.
The Todd Anderson Memorial Rodeo is Saturday, beginning with slack at 10 a.m., the Stick Horse Race at 5:30 p.m. and the main performance at 6 p.m. Following the action on Saturday, the Rodeo Club will host a concert featuring country music singer Alex Mabey and other local acts.
The Rodeo Club on Saturday will also celebrate and honor the life of former club member Todd Anderson who lost his life in a tragic house fire.The Rodeo Club will pay homage to Anderson by presenting his parents with a special belt buckle and with a silent auction benefitting Todd Anderson Memorial Scholarship.
The rodeo action concludes on Sunday with the Northwest Collegiate Rodeo Championship round, which begins at 11 a.m. This is where the highest scoring competitors from each competition converge on the rodeo arena to battle it out for rodeo supremacy.
