SOLVER

Kassandra Garcia Biography

Name: Kassandra Garcia

Hometown: Port Orchard, WA

Major: Mathematics

Research or Scholarly Interests: theoretical mathematics, history of math, differential equations

What do you like the most about being in SOLVER?
Being able to learn from and with peers as well as having access to a variety of resources. The SOLVER program has also motivated me to be more involved within my major, which in turn, has given me tools to make better informed decisions about my studies.

What drew you to majoring in "STEM" (the sciences, technology, engineering, or mathematics)?
Finding out that the further you study math, the more interesting it gets, and the more you can find connections between math and virtually any other subject!

What advice would you give to high school or college students who think they might be interested in STEM subjects?
Definitely try it out! Right out of high school I had originally wanted to major in dance, and I never even considered studying a STEM field, but now I’m majoring in mathematics and it’s something I’m really interested in. So if you’ve never thought about studying STEM, don’t immediately cross it off your list.  Taking just one class can help you figure out if you want to learn more about a particular subject.
