Applications for the 2016-2018 cohort of scholars will be accepted from early spring 2016 until May 1, 2016. Please check back in winter 2016 for more details.
1. Review the eligibility requirements
2. Prepare application materials
a. Write answers to the following three questions so that they are ready to copy and paste into the online application (or print out for a paper application):
i. How did you decide to pursue your STEM major? (approximately 300 words)
ii. How will the SOLVER Scholar Program assist you in obtaining your goals? (approximately 300 words)
iii. In what ways do you see yourself contributing to your own community and/or the community of SOLVER Scholars? In other words, what are your strengths in the realms of leadership, community service, and environmental sustainability? (approximately 300 words)
b. Obtain unofficial transcript(s) from all colleges attended, to be uploaded with online application.
3. Submit the following required materials
a. Application form (available online starting early Spring 2016). You will submit your essays and transcripts with this form. Please note that online applications must be completed in one sitting; they cannot be saved for later editing. The application will remain open until you press submit or close your browser.
b. Two letters of recommendation from college faculty or community leaders. Recommenders should submit their letters directly to the SOLVER program, either online or by mail. A submission link will be made available early Spring 2016.
c. A completed FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
Criteria for Evaluation:
A panel of reviewers will evaluate candidates, based on quality of written communication; potential to contribute to the SOLVER community, the STEM community, and the broader community; potential to increase diversity in the STEM fields; and potential to contribute to the STEM knowledge base.
Applicants have been notified of the committee's decisions via email.
