Program Information
Students interested in pursuing an area of scholarly inquiry which falls outside the purview of an established academic department or program of the university may apply for admission to the individual studies program. This academic program offers students an opportunity to develop, under the guidance of faculty advisors, a major which meets their specific needs. Major areas of study are typically interdisciplinary. The proposal must include a title, statement of purpose, a listing of courses comprising the major, and program goals. The course of study should include a minimum of 60 credits including at least two separate subject areas; 30 of the credits must be upper division. IS 487, End-of-Program Assessment, must be included in the course of study.
Admission
Applicants must have completed 60 credit hours of study with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA and be in academic good standing for admission. All proposal materials must be submitted to the College of the Sciences, Office of the Dean, at least three quarters prior to anticipated graduation. Proposals are subject to review and approval of an advisory committee which meets quarterly.
Instructions and application forms are available below. Please return completed forms to Dean Hall, Room 130.
